The thing that I don't like about the railless, is that it looks like the gaps are wider between panels and you can't get critter guard as flush on the edges. It's a consideration when you have loads of squirrels and flying squirrels.

Using PVKIT will result in gaps of 1.1" in-between rows. Gaps between columns can be specified on a project level. Gaps between columns may be limited by the specific module size and/or seam spacing on your project, but often spaces in-between columns can be kept to less than or equal to an inch. Regarding the critter guard, you could always drop us a line at support@s-5.com and we can address your issue on a project level.

@@TheMetalRoofingAcademy Thanks. I'll likely go with your roof mounts if I do go with roof mounted rather than ground. But I don't think I'll go railess. 1.1" is more than enough for flying squirrels (we have them nesting all all around us) to get through and probably enough for regular grey squirrels. Between those critters and mice, they can tear up both wiring and insulation....mitigating the best I can with close cell foam and rockwool insulation in new and renovated farm building projects and then poison on the inside (which I hate cause owls and bobcats, but I also didn't like $6k in auto wiring damage that I just paid). I'm using SMA Sunny Boys and getting close to 600 volts per string of panels on a cold day...and I do not want to see DC arcs on the metal roof on a barn. Lol.

Was that the total cost without the actual solar panels? How much is the total cost for 4000 sq ft? Out the door?
