I use the HITI P510L printers (2 - one main and 1 backup) for the past 4 years. The media is for 660 prints x 2 strips per print = 1320 photo strips. I usually get do 4-8 events with one media kit. Guess I am lucky in that aspect. The biggest tip I would have for anyone wanting to do this (and there is A LOT of competition now, unlike it was back when I started 4 years ago when the money was good) is to put your web site information on the photo strips somewhere. They will keep the photo strips more likely and not your card. I get more leads of the photo strips then I do off the business cards and I have not had a complaint from a client before as they see what the strip looks like including the web site info on the top of the strip. My brother in law just had his wedding a couple weeks ago and the kids went crazy with the photo booth. They did unlimited so I'm sure they went through at least one media pack.

Three things every photo booth person needs to have on hand are: -a back-up printer (if your printer dies, so does the gig without one) -extra media ink & paper (you don't always go through a full media kit at each gig, but you don't want to risk running out) -a cutter or scissors to cut the 4X6 prints into 2-2X4 strips. (some better printers do it for you).

This is so good to know. I have never took a backup printer to any event. Now I only book event that prefer social media upload and share. Or as I told my previous client, we don't offer printing. If you want it, it's free. Therefore, if it doesn't work or if it dies, no money lost. The printer I used in past automatically cut the media 4x6 and or 2x6. I guess having a cutter or scissors for the scrapbook would be ideal.

The Photo Booth Chick Hi there, do you have any suggestions for anyone starting out? Do I need a social printer or camera? I currently own a Nikon D7000.

The Nikon D7000 is very good. However, it all depend on your software. There is Breeze Photo Booth Software that works with it very well. DSLR Booth is great. However, if you use Darkroom Photo Booth software, its going to be a challenge. I have the Nikon D7000 and once I set it up with Darkroom, the guest can't see themselves. If you bump up the exposure, then it's too bring and will over expose. Most of these software companies offer a trial demo. So go ahead and download it and test it out. I have done probably 7 gigs on one media kit! If it's a huge group I find that usually not everyone wants a print and since I upload it to their gallery afterwards people just go online and get the pics there. My least favorite magic trick is the disappearing props!!

I'm satisfied with pretty much everything. Watch out for extra customs charges due to tarrifs if you're importing from China, I was supposed to pay $700 it actually came out to $1200

When I finish up school I think I am going to market myself for School dances. I figure, if the school can afford such things a photo booth might be a fantastic service to offer. Do the media kits change from time to time or would it be something that you could order before you even have a gig so that you have it already? Just in case something comes up and then it would pay for itself afterwards.
