How Much Fun Is It To Mix A Movie In Dolby Atmos?

Is it hard to mix in Atmos? I ask since it seems that it must be tedious because there is not a lot of good Atmos sound effects in most movies. I would be interested to see a screen capture of the process of making an effect go from front right up to front right height, to rear right height, down to rear right just as an example.

Good video, question. If I am mixing a movie in ProTools and this movie is going to be played in at least one movie theater, would you mix it in stereo or mix it in Dolby Atmos ?

I would always personally mix it in Dolby Atmos and then if stereo was requited use the binaural fold down from atmos. This way the listener in stereo can achieve far more depth and feel for sound even in stereo. I then always have the option to print atmos, 5.1, 7.1, stereo etc. Whereas if mixed in stereo we only have the option of stereo.

Yea i will be blown away listening to Atmos in your Room for Sure! But lets face it, so far in modern Cinemas even with Hollywood movies Atmos doesn’t sound good. I think it only works in rooms like yours in the sweetspot, but not just sitting somewhere in the cinema as it doesn’t sound realistic at all! Altho dialogue sounds awesome in our city. But I expected much much more from 64 speakers with Avatar 2 😊 i love to listen to Binaural Atmos Stereo renders with my Sennheiser HD800s as then i feel immersed and sounds above, next to, and behind me like reality. I do mix in Atmos too and i like that! and its the feature for sure but not many people will ever experience it like you do everyday. Cheers
