This further validates your decision to leave 6 figure engineering job/career.👍 I respect your modesty and openness to share personal wealth information. Keep in mind you have far greater autonomy as a content creator than reporting to duty at some engineering firm. Isn't your deductions less as self employed than salaried employee?
@BeatTheBush3 жыл бұрын
You hit it right on the nail. Autonomy is worth about 50% of my salary. That is, I am willing to take a 50% pay cut just so that I don't have to follow orders day in and day out. Deductions are by FARRRRR much much more as self-employed. All the equipment I use, all the travel I do, etc are all tax write offs.

Interesting to see the earnings of a mid-sized channel. I think there's an opportunity over the next 1-2 years to get to a million subs. If so, 3x the ad revenue + sponsors could easily put you in the 200-300k a year range. However, it would probably take a lot of grinding...

The affiliates pay roughly 50-100% of what I make on KZbin. I am obligated to not give specifics by contract but as you can see, I can give you an aggregate sum of all the affiliates together.
@tanzanable3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, as a self employed KZbin independent contractor, KZbin doesn't pay FICA taxes like your engineering employer did so you have to pay 15.3% of your earnings rather than the 7.65% you paid as an employed engineer. Social Security and Medicare FICA taxes take a huge bite out of KZbin income!
@BeatTheBush3 жыл бұрын
It comes out roughly a wash if you factor in the wide range of tax write offs that is possible being self employed.
@tanzanable3 жыл бұрын
@@BeatTheBush Because you're such a high earner you're paying the maximum FICA tax for your social security. But that means that you can look forward to receiving the maximum SS benefit amount when you retire. Retirees at age 70 claiming SS in 2022 can receive as much as $4124/month or $49,488/year. That income is protected from inflation with an annual COLA! Most private retirement plans are NOT indexed for inflation. Sad.

I took a look and it appears Walmart in particular has a lot of exclusions. IN order to get the $40, you need to earn a non-zero cash back. You still qualify if you signed up during that bonus period. Hence, if you still want the deal, you could potentially return the item at your local Walmart and get something that does qualify for the cash back. Hope that helps.
