There is so much speculation in this video that I don't even see the point. I mean, just to name one, I would estimate the piece of Beskan (if it has a density similar to that of normal steel) to weigh ~8+ oz not 4. And to your point we don't know how much of it was used in the alloy that makes up the pauldron. Did he donate 90% of it? 50%? Seemed like it was implied there was a lot left over. He also gave all the calmari money to the armorer as well. Is this because even though he was donating most of the Beskan block, the real restriction to him getting a full set of armor is actual money? Hell, it might not even be worth much on the open market, no one besides Mandalorians apparently use the stuff. Maybe market value doesn't even make sense here because it is so rare, and Madalorians are so rare, that there isn't really an agreed upon price that it trades at. To use some financial jargon; A market needs a certain level of liquidity for reliable price discovery. Kinda like how a rare stamp might be worth $1500 to a handful of collectors spread around the globe while being valueless to everyone else. By comparison an ounce of gold can be sold for ~$1500 reliably in any city, and any person knows gold has value. The gold is much closer to being 'money' than a rare stamp is.

Especially considering he gave it before he even brought out the Beskar and on top of that let the Smith keep the leftover Beskar for "Foundlings" to use.
@sancturillore5 жыл бұрын
Exactly. As the Mandalorian saying goes, family is more than bloodline. To Mandalorians, the clan's well being is more important than the individual's. I wouldn't be surprised if he only keep enough money for food, fuel and repairs, giving everything else he earns to the tribe. Plus, based on the Armorer's position as a Beskar'gam(traditional Mandalorian beskar-made armor) blacksmith AND based on the design of her own Beskar'gam (which appears to be of a style dating from the Old Republic Era, with the armor having been passed down in her family since then), I wouldn't be surprised if she's the head of that Mandalorian tribe. If she is, then giving her the money is about the same as giving money to the tribe. Then we can also factor in how she seems to be the one in charge of helping the foundlings gain access to their first piece of Beskar armor (the helm), with her likely having been the one(or her predecessor during her apprenticeship) to give the main character his helm back in the days. Everything points toward the main character giving to the tribe when giving money and Beskar to the Armorer, and that's without talking about how they didn't even discuss on the matter, implying a tacit understanding of such an interaction being the norm.

Honestly I think there's a far simpler way to go about it's true value, and I think it's worth far more than what you've estimated. In the scene where Djin comes in wearing his new suit of armor he meets with Greef Karga it's noted by Greef that he got paid in Beskar as well. He was given two bars and that was enough to make him say that he's rich now. I'm not sure how to exactly define rich but if each bar is only worth about $25,000 then that's definitely not enough to make Greef rich. I'd say they're worth 10 times as much as you've stated, making two of them worth $500,000 together. That qualifies as sort of rich to me

Full suit of Beskar'gam is listed as 33,000 credits (listed in Scum and Villainy Page 48) which is the same price for light, medium and heavy armors that to me doesn't make sense since heavy armor by nature would take more beskar than light armor. In the book, us dastardly Mando's can get it for 3,000 if the game master permits because it means a Mando Weapon/Armorsmith is available for forge it so the price can actually vary as well for making it into armor. Keep in mind that is Just The Arrmor, not any weapons added to it or modifications done to it. A full suit of contemporary newer style armor includes 19 pieces for a full suit which includes but is not limited to (this is all taken from: Bounty Hunters Code pages 142-143): buy'ce (or barbute, helmet), haalas (cuirass that might or might include beskad, kal'halcabure, karta beskar and shartas), ghet'bur (gorget which can include jatne ghet'bur or upper gorget, the part Jango Fett wasn't wearing when Mace Windu "topped" or decapitated him), nor'cabur (backplate), bes'marbure (spaulders which in older times included shun'bure or rear vambraces), kom'rk (vambrace or gauntlet which might or might not be included with the previous entry), ven'cabur (codpiece or groin protector which could include a hut'uun cabur, interesting note on that: hut'uun means Hutt. lol), motun'bure (cuissard, full or half style), bes'lovike (poleyns), and last but not least the tadun'bure (greaves or shin guards). So with the length of this response you can see how a full suit of beskar'gam can become quit expensive if it's made of beskar, lots and lots of parts to forge there, and is usually passed down from one generation to another instead of forging a whole new suit for each warrior.

@parkerzimmerman64055 жыл бұрын
joão soares I see your point but it’s not a flaw of the mandalorian. No hero being perfect at everything is interesting to watch. Take Anikan for example, he is the chosen one. That is said from the beginning. He lucks his way into winning the day in the phantom menace which was not interesting at all. Then he gets his butt kicked in attack of the clones by dooku. This shows that he has room to grow and makes him more human. This is the same thing we see with the mandalorian. He is clearly a great fighter but he was beaten by the Jawas and the hairy rhino. Contrast that with Rhey being perfect at everything and beating Kylo in episode 7 despite having no training. Clearly the outlier is Rhey which is why she isn’t interesting to watch. It has nothing to do with her being a female, it has to do with the hero’s journey. Something Lucas followed to a T.

A few issues, to a Mandalorian it also takes on a quasi religious value, not only for their codes, but in that it comes from one system, one world and one moon, making it one of if not the most unique item in the entire Known Galaxy. Add to this that the Mandalor have been mining this for thousands of years it is a very finite resource also increasing value. I think you need to look at adding a factor of between 10 and 100 times your given estimate assuming the Mandolorian doesn't just kill an outsider for having it.

@glitterboy20985 жыл бұрын
given the banded appearance of the ingot of beskar, it may well be that Beskar is not a fancy isotope, but rather a specific alloy created when smelting natural ore found on mandalore. similar to wootz steel, which was produced from ore deposits in southern India during the middle ages. these ore deposits were rich in various other trace minerals, and the smelting process added additional carbon. combined this made it some of the strongest and must ductile steel on the planet at the time. imported wootz steel ingots were the secret to the famous Damascus steel swords. when the ore deposits ran out, that particular alloy was lost, requiring modern chemical analysis to rediscover. it would not be hard to imagine that mandalore had large deposits of metallic ore that formed similar natural alloys. also that one bar produced way more than a single pauldron, as the armorsmith states that "the excess with sponsor many foundlings", suggesting that the single bar is enough for multiple pieces of armor. it seems likely that the ingot was mixed with other metals in the making of the pauldron, or perhaps the pauldron has a foamed microstructure that reduced the metal use (which IRL is a technology that has recently been developed..it both reduces the weight and material use of the armor, but also greatly increases the durability of it, particularly in regards to thermal transfer and impacts.)

When greef karga pulled 2 beskar blocks out of his shirt and said "even I'm rich", a guy in karga's position would hardly consider 42k credits a lot of money, let alone rich. To me, it sounded like each block was worth more like 100k credits for karga to be so giddy to boast about it.

This is what I don’t understand about Galactic Finance. I work in wealth management/investments and after reading several sources on galactic credits, the Galaxy seems to follow a pegged system where the InterGalactic Banking Clan would issue credits for any government since they had immense deposits of precious metals and rare gemstones like nova crystals found in Muunulist and Mygeeto which was in quantities of near inexhaustible amounts and enough to back the entire galactic credits which made the InterGalactic Banking Clan capable of being the guarantor in the first place. People could walk into the bank and request minerals in exchange for their credits and the Muuns had to honor it. Even with the fall of the Empire, Muunulist remained part of the Imperial Remnant according to some sources so they could still back the imperial credits even if people were not satisfied with it. What also didn’t make sense to me was Dac issuing their own currency the Mon Cala Flan since they were a member of the New Republic and I would assume they would instead use the New Republic Credit. Perhaps the Republic operated like the European Union where members had the option to opt in the unified currency or issue their own.

the Mandalorians in Rebels largely used Durasteel (which Boba Fett wears) rather than Beskar. The Mandalorian wears Durasteel chest plates in the first 2 episodes, but is seen wearing full Beskar in the trailers.

If you factor in that real plate armors were essentially as protective as a soda can, and there are many different metals available in the Star Wars universe, i’m willing to bet it’s worth more. Like a lot more.. A storm trooper’s armor would probably be the best equivalent to real world ancient plate armor,.

Something you missed - The economy of the Star Wars Galaxy is based on the US economy. But in 1977. A dollar, or a credit, went a lot farther in those days. About five times, to be exact. Also, despite the ups and downs of government and currency in the Star Wars universe, there doesn't seem to be any signs of the runaway inflation that we in the real world have suffered. So your estimate of 25,000 USD at todays prices, would probably equate to about 5,000 credits in the Galaxy. Their economy seems to be in MUCH better shape.

I feel like it would be worth a little more because not all of the beskar was used to make the pauldron and the remainder of the block was donated to the Mandalorian so its true value would be more like $27,000-$30,000

Due to how beskar works, I think that its real life equivalent would be platinum and it also would go with it's rarity and high price
@MaverickThePython3 жыл бұрын
Also beskar is estimated to be 20,000 credits per gram and one credit is worth approximately 2 dollars and 10 cents. platinum per gram is 35 dollars and 11 cents, I'm not very good at math so you'll have to do the calculations but there's the base work

@matthewscott36895 жыл бұрын
845835ab Salary? Do you mean income tax? It would be taxed as income. And the Mandolorian with all of his bounties is probably making bank... so he would be in the highest tax bracket. Also he’s isn’t married, so no tax breaks there. In the United States, he would get taxed 37% But in Star Wars world, since the Empire is fallen and it’s basically the Wild West, there isn’t any income tax on it. And in all honestly, who going to want to try and collect it from that guy?
@DanSolowastaken5 жыл бұрын
Beskar is a prestige material, that is especially prestigious to Mandolorians. If you were smart and dealing with a Mando you would pay them in Beskar regardless, knowing that you would get a better deal. I imagine that the material itself is a specific name for a relatively rare material. I doubt it is completely unique to one planet and it's moon, That would make it far more valuable. It would probably be completely mined out long before the New Republic. The same problem of scale that Starwars always has trouble with is present here. Rhodium is a good example, there is probably an asteroid on the far reaches of space that has some also. Maybe a moon in Frontier space, maybe a forgotten iceball in wild space. Beskar is just the Manolorian name for a rare material that probably has a hundred names outside of Basic.

STAR WARS DIDN'T DIE ! The Last Johnson didn't kill this universe because Lucas put his vision into the heads of Filloni and Favreau and they get a galaxy far far away better than Iger, Kennedy or Rian ever would. Also unlike Abrams they are brave enough to make stories that ride on the wings of Lucas yet still seem new and fresh . This Mandalorian score has made me very happy as well . You want to sell a space story that feels like gritty spaghetti westerns of yesteryear make the score sounds like it does in the Mandalorian ! The two men who are now producing these live action TV shows need to be running Disney Star Wars from the top !

If the only place in the entire GALAXY where you can find Beskar is in the Mandalorian home world, and it has all those properties,, you bet is worth a lot more of credits than anything else in the galaxy.

You were onto something by first finding out how much the actual alloy would cost but if your calculations 25k by todays standards for a block, I'd say that a damn bargain LOL. One of the rarest metals in the galaxies and has properties to stop blasters and lightsabers. he used like 20 of them to make the rest of his armor (I'm to lazy to rewatch) so around 500k for a full set seems REAL LOW. Idk random thoughts
@psionx15 жыл бұрын
baskar is likely a tungsten alloy which should make it more than $30,300.00 a metric ton or $13.74 a pound. being the stuff that makes the filiment of ye olde light bulbs it can defiantly take a hit or 2 from a lightsaber.

I think it's safe to say that the Mandalorian is walking around with millions of dollars worth of armor. Bobba Fett was one of the best bounty hunters in the galaxy and he couldn't seem to afford the real deal armor. Essentially, it should have made the Mandalorian enough cash for him to retire or semi retire. I'd estimate his payment was in the $10 to $20 mill range. About what a high end athlete would get for a contract.

Eh it's debatable if Boba Fett is/was a mandalorian. He isn't genetically, as Jango was sort of adopted by mandalorians. Neither is he culturally (which is likely more important) as he spend no time with them as a collective aside from the things he might have picked up from his father. Then again maybe that's enough to qualify? Still debatable though. Great video otherwise. Not sure the final estimation holds ground but until we have any official numbers this is a solid guess I'd say. Like from me!

“Credits” seem to be made out of metal, just like our coins today. Even appears they use metals similar to gold, silver and copper if not those exact metals. So, I don’t understand why it would matter if they were imperial credits or not lol
@AdmiralStoicRum4 жыл бұрын
The value of the credit is backed by the full faith and credit of the empire. No empire credit becomes useless. Like the old monies of the ottoman empire
@darthsilversith6674 жыл бұрын
Admiral Stoic Rum That’s my point though. If credits are made out of valuable metal.. those metals don’t suddenly become useless just because a empire/country falls. Faith in a currency is really only required with paper money. As long as the Empire wasn’t “watering down” the purity of the credits to stretch them further.. then it shouldn’t matter. For example.. the Nazi’s made silver coins and paper currency.. while after the war, the paper currency would in fact be useless, the silver coins would still have value for their silver content.

Boba isn’t a mando neither was Jango
@raidernation88695 жыл бұрын
Joseph Raymond hasn’t really been confirmed. we don’t have Jango’s backstory in the new cannon. The new mandalorians claimed that Jango was not a mandalorian in order to slander his name and disassociate him from mandalorians. This happened when the new mandalorians were trying to be pacifists, and Jango and boba were becoming famous for their bounty hunting, and bobas crimes against the republic. So the new mandalorians were trying to clear their names stating that any mandalorians who still followed the old warrior ways were pretenders because they basically rid mandalore of all the old warriors.
