I think you hit the nail on the head, Hubert is a great guy, but we are definitely trending in the wrong direction, and that falls on him
@votered7 сағат бұрын
Great analysis, Russ. As men we should take responsibility for how well we perform with our families, jobs, and all facets of life. I absolutely want Hubert and the Heels to succeed. Ultimately it’s his responsibility to achieve the best possible results with the players he has. The team is underperforming. Excellence is the only option for everyone who represents Carolina.

As a Louisville fan im rolling with HD, especially after bein in the FF not long ago as Carolina fans seems to forget,i believe the brotha has learned not bringing in any bigs, so give H.D 1 more year to change UNC around 💯

That FF was with Roy’s guys though. And they were on the bubble before Caleb got SCORCHING hot. Preseason #1 the next season and MISSED the tourney, good year last year, but bubble’s about to burst in year 4 and we’re not even in February. That’s with a 5⭐️ PG, returning All-American 2-Guard, and two new 5⭐️s. I’m not disagreeing with you, BUT he definitely needs to be reminded this is a results oriented business at Carolina. You don’t lose and people look the other way. Appreciate the outside opinion though, fam! 🐏🏀💪🏼

there are plenty of big men So & Jrs that would love to come play for UNC. over 300 Div 1 teams, but they have to be offered to come to UNC. Davis knew what level of talent he had in big men at the end of last yr. He needed 2 guys 6"9" who could score 10pts a game. I would say HD is on the hot seat next year

One of the frustrating things about this season is Hubert did get a center recruit named James Brown. James must not be that good because he's not getting much playing time. Maybe if James stays around he will get better but theres always a chance he wil transfer somewhere to get more playing time.
@thetarheelhuddle6 сағат бұрын
I agree about the frustration of not seeing JB in for extended minutes. Obviously playing the 5 as an 18 year old is much more difficult than coming in and running the point. But with such a lack of size in the blocks I’m surprised he’s not in for nothing more than to be a presence down low on defense. It’s not like it’s in the game plan to feed the post anyway……

Bubba gets paid to make tough decisions. Yes it’s definitely difficult but it’ll be for the best if he hits a home run on the next hire.
@TheMacronical5 сағат бұрын
It's 50% Hubert Davis & 50% the A/D for not adapting to the new college landscape of NIL/Portal fast enough. But notice, look at all of UNC's programs having success recently & notice they ALL have a proper General Manager to handle recruiting (as there's too many facets now involved for coach solely to handle it). Just hire a GM & let them handle what happens with the coaching staff.

Seems extremely reasonable to me for a program like Carolina to be run more like a professional sports team as well. Maybe Bill’s innovative approach will make its way over to basketball as well. Good post, my friend.

I think that it’s partly Hubert’s fault but definitely not all his fault. In all these close games he’s had plays to get open 3s for RJ, but RJ just hasn’t been himself this year unfortunately. So is RJs slump this season on Hubert, maybe partly because he wasn’t able to land a big. Was not landing a big on Hubert, that’s up for debate, some say the funds weren’t there, some say they were, I’m not sure. If Tyson had been a Manek type get in the portal, this is a very different team, there were a pile of big time programs after him such as Tennessee, so is it Hubert’s fault completely that he hasn’t worked out, the portal isn’t a 100 percent hit rate for any coach so far that I’m aware of, but some fault is Hubert’s fault cause he basically went all in on him, and he didn’t work out. So the bottom line is I’m just not certain what way to go with Hubert, it does seem a little knee jerk to fire him a year after winning the Acc regular season and getting a one seed in the NCAA tournament. But having said that it’s been a roller coaster with the same nucleus of players throughout his tenure which seems like it shouldn’t be as difficult to stay consistent, and have good chemistry. I really expected for this team to be a solid top 25 team and they have definitely underperformed, in the end I think it’s everyone’s fault including Hubert’s but not just Hubert’s, I really wish he could shoot for them but he can’t, these were all highly rated guys that are underperforming.
@thetarheelhuddle7 сағат бұрын
@@EricComer-v5r That’s fair enough, Eric. If Carolina knocks down some of these open looks we’re not having this conversation. But then you could point to the fact that due to their being very little interior presence we HAVE to hit shots or we can’t compete is on the coaching staff for not getting a big that could bang. If nothing else I think we can deduce that Carolina needs big men. This 4-out, 5-out approach too often makes you extremely susceptible to poor shooting nights, or in RJs case a poor-shooting season. NEED to be able to consistently feed the post.

Having Powell on the bench for over 9 minutes in the second half of the wake game is poor coaching. He’s to valuable to be riding the pine. I don’t care if he made some poor shots. He is great defensively. Needed his length.
@EricComer-v5r4 сағат бұрын
Yes sir I agree with all that, I am not a huge fan of this small ball crap, I’ve watched Unc basketball for to many years to be the team getting hammered on the boards and not the team doing the hammering on the boards. With Roy’s teams it didn’t matter so much if we made 3s or not because we would just play volleyball under the rim till it went in, I can deal with not playing 2 true bigs but to not have one, there is just no excuses at Unc, a school legendary for bigs.

@@thetarheelhuddleyes the game has passed him by. We need someone that can recruit with the best of the country. NIL money too.😂
@EricComer-v5r6 сағат бұрын
Well let’s look at Roy’s last 2 seasons just to be fair. The year before he retired he brought in the best point guard in the country, Cole Anthony, Leaky Black and Armando Bacot, Cole and Armando were McDonald’s all Americans, Cole was a stud, had he not gotten hurt early in the season they would’ve easily made the tournament despite having to break in his new big man Bacot. Roy’s final season he brought in Deron Sharpe, Walker Kessler, Puff Johnson, Caleb Love, and RJ Davis. Puff wasn’t a McDonald’s all American but I think the others were. Had Roy stayed with the nucleus he put together those 2 seasons he would have won a championship I think in the following 2 years. Just saying, not too shabby. That nucleus would beat this year’s team by around 25 I’d say, and would out rebound this year’s team by 25 as well lol.

I look over at the bench and I see a lot of dead wood. HD needs to bring in some younger assistant coaches. These guys are not getting their jobs done. No energy!!!!

I think I saw HD tell Maye to sit down during the Wake Forest game. It may just be that HD has told them that only he can be demonstrative on the sideline. Idk, but either way when a guy comes to the bench after underperforming it sure would be nice if there was some “tough-love” occasionally.

@@thetarheelhuddleI think Hubert (if he is here next cycle) needs to make some changes on his staff. These players don’t seem prepared in any game this year. Coaching matters. Schemes matter. They seem to wander around out of position every game. I’m tired of seeing these guys running at a shooter that has a wide open look at a shot because someone forgot to switch. That’s basic stuff. I learned this in middle school.

This is 100% on Hubert Davis. At a baseline if he could manage a game or a damn UNC would have two losses. The formula has been the same over and over play from behind get a 4-9 point lead and then piss it away in the final 4 minutes. Mention he can’t recruit bigs to save his life. He had two years to find a competent big man after bancot. Not to mention we are losing games to teams we have almost NEVER lost to in HISTORY.
