what if it's mixed? you work 20 years and paid into SS, but then you worked as a teacher and not pay into SS. I hear that you would have to work 30 years of paying into SS in order to not have a reduction in SS earning? There is something about paying into SS for 30 years in order to collect pension and social security.

It’s not, as long as you paid FICA. Government employees may be subject to windfall reductions.

If Biden signs new bill to protect the government pensions like teachers etc. and not reduce social security benefits, will it apply to Puerto Rico?
@irwinsaltzman97911 ай бұрын
By teachers not paying into social security it saves the state/county the 8% fee they would need to pay into SS.

I'm a retired city police officer from California who retired on a disability. On the job injury. Approximately what percentage of my SS would i loose ? Thx

If you were paying into SS, then no reduction. Otherwise have a look at the SS website and I will set an appointment with them to learn more about your specific situation. www.ssa.gov/benefits/retirement/planner/wep.html

I am about to turn 61 in March. I have 16 months before i am eligible for SS. I also will have a NJ pension. I worked at a public school for 35 years. I will get 3k from that and 1800 from SS. My co-worker seems to think i wont be eligible until i turn 67 for benefits. Something about my age and 23,000 and anything over that will get taxed heavily. I emailed my local ss office and im waiting to hear back. Do you know what he was talking about ? Im lost when it comes to this.

I hope you get more than what you say you’re going to get from your State Retirement because that is shit. I put in 10 years at a city fire department in Florida. Vested at 10 years, was able to draw at 45 years old but I waiting a little and I now I receive 33% of my base pay which is $812 before taxes every month. I’m 47 years old now and I still work.

@@davidhoppes118 I’ve been retired 3 months now and I get 3173 every month. It’s enough to get by. My bills are less cuz I live alone. I’m looking forward to SS to see what I’ll be getting. But since I’m ok , that money will be icing on the cake

Does this rule apply to ex-spouses who get a portion of teacher pension in divorce but also have their own social security expected on retirement?
@awiserretirement Жыл бұрын
We would need more information, but based on what I understand from your question, this would not apply to the spouse of the teacher, just the teacher.

if I worked 30+ years into Social Security and then took a government job after that. will I still get my full SS benefit ?
@awiserretirement11 ай бұрын
Depends on if you are still paying into SS. If so, no reduction.

So I took a government job 5 years ago and no we don't pay into SS. but I do have the necessary credits for SS. I am only going to get a small Government pension of 2% at 11 years. @@awiserretirement
