For those of you from the UK, as of the 1st of July 2024 you will no longer need to complete specified regional work to extend your visa to a 2nd or 3rd year, as per the new trade deal between the two countries.

Hey Hilla, that's a great question! So in Melbourne and Sydney I believe, in the major tourism or busy areas like centre squares or Bourke St in Melbourne - buskers actually need to get a permit from the local council. I can only speak for Melbourne on this but they require permits as the music culture here is so strong they want to showcase talent when it's deserved and allow the space for them to do so in some of the busiest parts of the city. This also means the buskers tend to earn quite good money! Otherwise away from busy areas you should be able to just set up and play as long as you're not disturbing the peace! Hope that helps

Thank you so much for this video, very helpful! I had a couple of questions about the casual worker classification - are casual workers still guaranteed 38 hours per week if, for example, they aren't able to work enough hours in a farming job due to weather? Also, do casual workers still receive superannuation contributions? Thank you in advance! 😊
@WelcometoTravel
@WelcometoTravel Жыл бұрын
Hey Matt, great questions! Casual workers are NOT guaranteed 38 hours, most awards state a casual employee is legally allowed a min of 3 hours to 38 hours max per week. If the business is busy then casuals generally work quite a bit. It's essentially a discussion between flexibility vs reliability. So you get paid more as a casual but not promised the reliability of hours that a full time employee gets - that's the trade off. Casuals do get super yes 😁

Hi Reiny, tourism and hospitality jobs in northern or remote and very remote Australia are now eligible for 88 day work. So I would be searching around the top third of the country or remotely and always ask the employer if they definitely do sign-off for 88 days rather than assuming.

100% correct on the best way to save. Come to a farm and drive tractors. Most likely accomodation is included, food is sometimes included and the pay is better while doing a more enjoyable job rather than picking. And you will learn skills you can take home and use rather than learn to pick fruit which anyone can do already. Also the lifestyle on farm and the benefits you get while being on a farm will always be better than picking and paying to stay in a hostel. I’m pretty sure the hostel doesn’t have motorbike you can take out riding whenever you while having a few beers. Iv had many backpackers work under me who have made $3000 a week after tax with no prior experience of driving tractors. Iv seen backpackers come with no money after picking and leave us with $20,000 in the bank after a 3 months and have enough knowledge of farm work to be able to go home and get a job on a farm if they wanted. The downside for backpackers who like to travel in groups is most tractor driving farm jobs aren’t looking for a group, usually one or two. Good luck, chase the adventure.

It depends if your job is on the Skilled Labour Occupation list - there are certain visas available if you can fill a skills gap that an employer is unable to fill with the Australian labour market. It is worth talking with a migration agent if you are unsure and want to explore your options immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/working-in-australia/skill-occupation-list

Hi Guys, The Australia-United Kingdom Free Trade Agreement which would expand the VISA parameters to 3 years and you would not have to do regional work to be accepted for an VISA extension has been signed virtually, I also read this morning that something was passed in the AU parliament on 22 November 2022 but I'm not sure if this is a binding action. Could you make a video explaining the changes it would make, the current situation of the agreement, and when/if it will come into effect? One reason I'm wanting to know more is that it would mean UK 417 backpackers would not have to do the regional work, however, I'm actually looking forward to doing it as it's a good opportunity to make friends and save some money. My question is how do you think the agreement would affect the sector for Hourly Pay, competition etc... Regards, Jordan
@WelcometoTravel
@WelcometoTravel Жыл бұрын
Hey Jordan, you're right here although the agreement hasn't officially passed and come into affect so we're intently waiting for it to officially happen. When it does we will absolutely be making a while video on it and posting about the updates all over socials. I would say at this stage it's unlikely to change wages in Australia for UK citizens as award rates are country wide and applicable to all nations, I doubt they will ever approach it to specific nationalities and not others. We will have to see what the changes are once it's officially passed but right now we can't assume anything. Farm work is definitely a good time and a very easy setting to meet people/make new friends.
@JAB-Fitness
@JAB-Fitness Жыл бұрын
@@WelcometoTravel Thanks for getting back! Will keep my eye out for that one then! My question regarding the knock on effect of the changes evolves around the premise that if UK citizens are not required to undertake 88 days of regional work this may create a loss in the national workforce for fruit picking, coupled with other reports I have seen in the past that in AU that there is already a workforce shortage in this sector and that this may lead to a pay rise for all workers (not just UK) in order to entice people to come and work in the sector.
@WelcometoTravel
@WelcometoTravel Жыл бұрын
There will absolutely be in a knock-effect when the FTA comes into play and grants UK citizens permission to opt-out of regional work. However the reason for this is we also have a severe worker shortage in professional and other skilled sectors. So the premise of the FTA is to allow UK workers to more easily transfer their skills and qualifications from their professions into the Australian workforce to help ease the stress on shortages in other industries such as trade, construction, customer service, corporate etc. When some industries loose others win basically. Unsure of whether this will encourage a pay-rise for farmwork as the minimum wage was already just increased last year and has ensured piece rate wages meet the minimum wage now too so working holidayers have already won big when it comes to regional work wages.

It really depends what you are planning to do while you are on your trip. It's good to have a buffer or emergency fund while you are job-hunting - so if you are planning to look for a job straight away when you arrive, take a look at your current spending habits while at home and make sure you can account for at least 1 month without working while you look. Hey Lucia, all working holiday makers will pay 15% in tax. If you have a high bracket paying job however the tax may increase but generally it's 15%. You can lodge a tax return as of July 1st in Australia and if you're on the WHV it likely won't be necessary to declare foreign income. As long as you've paid the correct tax in Aus. www.ato.gov.au/Individuals/coming-to-australia-or-going-overseas/coming-to-australia/working-holiday-makers/#:~:text=Tax%20withheld%20by%20your%20employer,21%20and%20later%20income%20years.
