It is due to entertainment value , not sport washing. Premier league provides more storyline and entertainment due to more fair competition between teams whilst la liga cheats the small teams to favor big teams.

Laliga teams have boundaries on every thing from salary to players and due to this barcelona are struggling and madrid are facing passport issues and while in PL team are spending huge number of money without any restrictions and now it has become farmers league with city winning league every year.
