In this video, I will share with you how much I earned from my job when I was a resident-in-training in Philippine General Hospital, what is the 3-Day Duty Cycle for a resident ( to give context as to how much value my salary has when compared to how many hours I was working as a doctor) and finally we’re gonna talk about how it compares to doctor salaries if you do your residency training in a private hospital in the country. Hope you find it useful! :)

A lot of hard work and dedication. Unfortunately working at McDonald’s in US makes more than a doctor in Philippines wow!

I do landscape and fencing, and I pay my two helpers $15 per hour and if I am too busy, I would hire my friend who does the same type of work and I pay him at minimum $350 per eight-hour day but sometimes pay him 600-800 dollars depending on type of job/profit. Seem like my side hustle working about 5 hours a day selling on eBay still makes more money than a doctor in Philippines. It seems like it's better to study as a nurse and work find work in Europe and the US.

@@temujinkhan6326 Yes. If it's prestige, status one is looking for ie because of societal expectations and beliefs, then doctor it is. Otherwise, it really does not make sense to be one. As one can be of service to the community in ANY job/work/activities one chooses. I think the important ingredient is to do what one is passionate about.

The salaries stated are the ones earned by residents who are still under training. Once they have patients of their own, they can expect to earn much more. Based on some research, it can amount to several millions of pesos for top Filipino doctors, but of course this is still less than their top performing counterparts in North America and Europe. Well, it’s not much of a problem since the cost of living here is much cheaper and doctors don’t have as much legal issues that American doctors are often concerned with.

hello doc! I would just like to ask if a failed subject in med school would affect a student's acceptance for residency in PGH. thank you very much!
@KarlAvilloMD
@KarlAvilloMD Жыл бұрын
Hi! As far as I know, when applying for residency, the applicant will be evaluated in 3 areas: Med school GWA; PLE rating; Preresidency performance (preresidency exam/work/interview). The short answer to your question is it depends on a lot of factors. :) If you failed a subject in med school and your PLE rating is fairly decent coupled with great work ethic shown during preresidency, you will have higher chances of getting accepted. As they always say, you have to show that you are teachable and trainable if you wanna get into PGH. Good luck!

@KarlAvilloMD
@KarlAvilloMD Жыл бұрын
For fellows-in-training, higher salary for government hospitals vs private. For the former, ~PHP 70k and for the latter it’s around 30k. For consultants it will be a wider range because your salary will not be coming from only one source which is the hospital. You will be doing private clinic plus medical procedures so there will be big differences.

@@KarlAvilloMD I’ve always wondered how I would do if I lived in the Philippines. My parents graduated from med school there but emigrated to the states many many years ago. I’m an attending anesthesiologist in the states. I do fine but my cousins who are physicians in Manila seem to do just as well if not better when you take lifestyle into consideration.
