I love my Aprilia, the soundtrack alone is the best ever, it's the only bike I've had that puts a smile on my face every time I ride it, and I've had zx10r, Fireblade, R1s, it's got a much deeper bark than a R1/MT10, I wouldn't have a different make of bike after riding my Aprilia.

So far my 22 v4 factory is a gem, only 3.5 k miles. Like you I do my own maintenance…until i can’t. Tires are absolutely crazy, my exhaust was $$$ crazy, but these were my choice of noise and handling. Took me all winter to pay those off😅. I love the bike, it’s not a Japanese bike, but you don’t see or hear a v4 ape running around in my neck of the woods. You do pay to be different

So happy that you popped up on the algorithm tonight! I recently have experienced the intermittent urgent service light on my 2012 RSV4. Diag cables showed up earlier this week and I was looking into Guzzidiag stuff when your newest video popped up. Definitely going to check my battery and grounds and hopefully Guzzidiag doesn't show any faults as my dash currently doesn't have any stored.

Thanks for the video. Very informative. I have a 2020 TV4F and have had similar issues to yourself. The spark plug oil weep happened about 1000miles into the bikes life. This was thankfully sorted by my dealer at no cost to me. I also have the random red error message now appearing which I agree with you is battery related. However I will check the connections at the battery and the framed earth connection and finally the starter motor. However these are minor issues and I still freaking love this bike.

Thanks for the video Chad. Next year I’m planning to upgrade to a new liter bike and it’s between the Yamaha R1 and Aprilia RSV4. I love the sound of both. There’s rumor of the R1 being being tested with cruise control in Japan and if that’s the case and it releases with that feature in 2024 I’m going that route. If not I’ll be really happy with an RSV4 as it already has CC, and I love the rumble, low down, and midrange.

Now that's what I call ownership, definitely very helpful information. If every aprilia owner would be this careful about the maintenance of his motorcycle, the image of Italian motorcycles wouldn't be that bad, a lot of people buy Italian motorcycles for their performance but don't have the money to keep them well maintained and that is why many consider them unreliable. Yes they have their faults but so do Japanese motorcycles as well.

Nice reviews brotha, i had a 2012 v4r tuono. What a nightmare of a bike. Guessing guy before me didn't take great care of it since I had to deal with a lot of its problems. I think 2017-2020 was the sweet spot for these bikes. Most attractive in my opinion, and still had some of the tech that makes them easier to ride. Plus, they're new enough and still somewhat valuable, so based on what I've seen, most have low miles or have been cared for well. Hope you find one that's a good fit for you!

Great bike, my favorite of all the8 bikes I've had...reminiscent of my VFRs but even smoother (no buzzy handlebars!!) for sport-touring and of course about DOUBLE the power...I did have one quirky issue, valve in the exhaust went faulty and would cut out the throttle over about 6k or so, and was elusive to diagnose. That cost $1000 and included a muffler swap. Might've banged the bottom of exhaust loading it on a u-Haul but we'll never know. Don't like to talk about it...

Hey Chad, I'm just a little surprised that the dealer has not replaced or mentioned of adjusting the cam chain tensioner. It is a hydraulic actuated tensioner with a ratchet that can wear out overtime. On forums people who had issues with a loose chain do tell to replace that tensioner during each valve service. Another source has shown that if the tensioner is still good you can reset it to it's home position by pressing it in so it sticks out a few mm (mentioned in the service manual).

The 20,000km/12,000mi service is pricy compared to more common bikes, but it's still cheaper than the 15,000mi service on a Ducati V4! You still run the original battery? That’s pretty impressive. My 2019 Tuono RR seems to have bad oil rings or something because it burns about a quart of oil every 14 or 1,500 miles or so. An independent Aprilia mechanic with a very good reputation tells me it’ll probably cost me around $3,500 to remedy. Less than 5,000 miles on the odometer.
@hiimchad
@hiimchad Жыл бұрын
As far as I'm aware, it is still the original battery! I haven't replaced it over the course of my ownership. I recall seeing on the forums that Aprilia says up to a quart every 1,000 miles is normal. If that's the case, I wouldn't say it's cause for alarm. Just be sure to check your oil and top off when doing your chain maintenance! Did that Aprilia mechanic tell you why it would cost $3,500? Have you had a compression and leak down test done?

I'm using Mitas Sport Force+, rear tire 115€, front tire 103€ (the EV model, the 'base' model is 91€), 40€ both fitted to the wheels, so 258 in total (+ delivery cost 25€ for three tires, I always order two rear tires and one front tire at once). Excellent tires with reasonable cost. Coolant flush is about 5€ for the pre-mixed coolant (a 5 litre can is around 11€) + a crush washer 1€, so 6€ + a little bit of time, one of the easiest jobs to do 🙂 The most expensive thing so far has been valve clearance check + adjustment (one valve was out of spec) together with spark plugs change an air filter change, it was 492€ including parts and labor.

I am starting to look at the Aprilia very seriously. I recently purchased a 2000 Ducati Monster 900ie. Fully restored and modified. I love riding it but miss riding a true sport Bike. I used to race a Yamaha R1(@ Button willow). Question for someone new to Aprilia bike's. What is the difference between the Aprilia RSV4 and the Tuono? Is it just the handle bars instead of clip ons?
@hiimchad
@hiimchad 11 ай бұрын
Aside from the handlebar and bodywork, the Tuono's engine is a bit different, as it is an 1100 (really 1077cc) whereas the RSV4 of the same year was a true 1000. As a result, the Tuono has a lot more midrange power, and actually produces more horsepower from idle to 8k rpm than the 2017 RSV4. Additionally, the chassis geometry is a bit different, and the gearing is much shorter overall. They do share the same electronics, suspension options (although sprung differently I believe), brakes, and more.

It wasn't Moto Club that flushed the cooling system that first time. I had it done at Orange County KTM/Husqvarna/Aprilia because I used to live fairly close. Any other details you can share? Condition, mileage, etc? As far as inspecting, I would check for leaks all around the engine, fork seals, and so on. If there is an independent shop nearby you can ask the dealer to take it there for a pre purchase inspection at your cost. If they say no, negotiate in a warranty. Assuming mileage is low and condition is great the Factory is the better deal imo, but all depends on how you're going to ride the bike. RR is more comfortable but still sporty enough for a track day, Factory would be great for days at Barber if you go routinely.
