Great video Ben and Lauren. I may consider installing one of these in the Skoolie bedroom next season. 😊

Thanks for the informative video. In your opinion, would going to 24V mini-split have been much better? What do you think is the ideal BTU level for your size RV if you could only have one A/C? That said, what about going to 1K amp hours batteries and one A/C, how long do you think it will last in 90F+ temp?

Not having any first hand experience with a 24V system, we cannot comment. We are looking at increasing the voltage of our power system in the future but probably not on this rig. As far as BTUs go, that is difficult to answer as we have always had air distribution issues in this 5th wheel. We are shooting for 15,000 - 20,000 BTUs. For your question on the 1K amp hours of battery power and one AC, we could not even begin to calculate that, as there are far too many variables to come up with a solid answer. As important as it is to have the proper size battery bank, it is just as important to have a way to recharge those batteries to sustain your power and keep your electronic systems operating in the RV. In our opinion the charging system should be able to recharge your batteries and also run the equipment at the same time.

Great video! Few questions, how long would it run with solar on? And how many watts solar? If u had it pluged into a generator, it goes from there to the midnight solar, and it plug into the ac directly? Also did u run on high? Is there a low setting, and i assume that would draw half the power? Thanks again!

For the low setting, the inside fan runs slower but we have never done a long term power test in low, so we cannot answer that question. If you ran a generator, it would have to go to the converter (kzbin.info/www/bejne/fmi3mZtjl8yliq8) first which would change it to 12V DC current to the batteries and then from the batteries the power would go to the air conditioner. The MidNite solar kid cannot convert the generator or shore power to DC current it is just a solar charge controller. As far as powering it off of solar, you can power it until the sun goes away. You would need a minimum of 800Watts with ideal conditions just to power the air conditioner but this would not be enough to charge your batteries for other power demands.

600 amp hours, you are fine with AC, right? Even better with a DC unit. You don’t lose thru the inverter. Is that the DC unit you recommend or would you like a different unit now that you have more knowledge?

We like the concept of running it directly off of our batteries. As far as recommendations, there are so many variables in the RV world we cannot recommend this one product in general.

Can you send me a video how you conect your AC with the battery please. Thanks.

With the wiring already in the walls and our battery compartment being so tight, there is not much to see.

Would i be able to run this off of a eco flow delta 2 max
@rohdsteading5880
@rohdsteading5880 Жыл бұрын
It does not look like it. The Eco Flow Delta 2 Max only has 2 DC ports rated at a maximum output of 3amps at 12.6V. This air conditioner requires a 12V connection that can support 80amps DC.

use a AC to DC converter make sure it’s rated at high watts

Is this also a heater, or just a cold air unit ?

Basically, I am asking this because I am in Canada and I would like to run a mini split to both cool and heat a remote shed off of solar to keep my lawn mowers, ATVs and whatnot somewhat safe from the varying temperatures and humidity. Plus, it would be a great thing to have when working on these things in the shed too.

If you ran that unit at that capacity your system would be dead in early evening and reliant on generator power if it a totally off grid system. Evan b4 sundown. Or needing generator a few hrs after sundown.

We never claimed that our system is fully off grid. It is not, we are living mobiley. In this video we were simply showing how much power this AC takes to operate. We did not show it with our solar on, converter on, or our DC to DC charger on. And, from our other videos, we have stated before that our system was not designed to handle this type of load completely. When we designed our system 5 years ago this was not an option. We have simply added it with plans to expand our system in the future.

@rohdsteading5880 I appreciate the clarity on the matter and I'm new to your video I live offgrid full time. This past summer was an issue with cooling the house. I'm currently looking for a reasonable cost to cooling that won't drain my batteries Or cost thousands So far the swamp cooler is best.
@rohdsteading5880
@rohdsteading5880 Жыл бұрын
We agree that a swamp cooler is a good option as long as you are in the proper climate. We toyed with the idea of a swap cooler for a long time because of it's low power consumption. But due to our lack of water and moving to different types of climates, we did not like the restrictions it would put on us. For you, being stationary, again being in the proper climate, a swamp cooler may be a really good choice.

@@terrellstewart4071 EG4 12k solar mini split with panels is only $3k. If you used the Treeligo it would only save you like $500. There's no real way to do it cheaper than this with solar.

So you need two AC units…
@rohdsteading5880
@rohdsteading5880 Жыл бұрын
Yes, one of these units is not enough for our size RV, in direct sunlight, at 96 degrees. However, in the 80 degree temperatures it has been working well. To give you more perspective out factory AC is a 13,500 btu unit (which is probably not big enough to begin with) and this DC powered unit is only 10,000 btu.
@kendespain9385

So. how big is your RV? This is one of the most irritating things about these A/C videos, they talk about how well the units work but rarely give the size of they're rigs.@@rohdsteading5880

@@rohdsteading5880 yes, it claims 10k btu/hr. I am always suspicious of the claims. I'm cooling a 300sq ft room made of almost all windows with a 5k btu/hr window unit and it cools it ok on a 100F day. I suspect the Treeligo is closer to 5k than 10k.
