That intercooler is definitely helping you make that power. With the stock intercooler, IAT's creep up pretty badly with the FL5's which would decrease your power a fair amount.
@adim00lah
@adim00lah Жыл бұрын
Well, the stock fl5 from hondata did 327 crank hp, so with a 10% drive train loss that puts you exactly at 294 whp. Not sure if the intercooler is doing anything tbh.
@jdubbsvt85
@jdubbsvt85 Жыл бұрын
@Adam A. the 327hp from factory isn't going to tell you much at all. 10% loss is probably on the optimistic side when realistically its more lile 15-20% loss. I can tell you from personal experience that the one I drove the other day with a stock intercooler had IAT's of 103°f and the outside temps were 35°....imagine what they'd be on an 80° day...the stock intercooler is garbage
@JD-rq7il
@JD-rq7il Жыл бұрын
Most factory intercoolers are 100% made for production, ie cheap! Plastic wnd tanks, small cores, etc. Once you hit roughly 100°, timing starts to get pulled. In the summer you are losing substantial power due to lack of cooling
@adim00lah
@adim00lah Жыл бұрын
@@jdubbsvt85 I agree the stock intercooler isn't that great, I own an fl5, I'm certainly going to get an intercooler upgrade asap, and later on an oil cooler upgrade as well. 20% is high for fwd though, I would say 10-15%. I never seen anyone say 20% for fwd. Also you have to consider they are in california with 91 octane, which is gonna make a difference as well. Prl on 93 octane was able to get 302 to the wheels on a stock fl5, so if it's 15% from there, the type r is about 355 fly which seems a bit too high. It's probably about 12% loss, which puts the crank hp at around 345.

Hey Dustin! Just found you on You Tube and subscribed due to your positive vibes/educational install video. You actually have me convinced that I can do the same. I owned 2 FK8s(one stock/one modified). Just bought a 21 Accord with 9k miles and plan on doing as many SMOG legal mods that I can since it’s a used car. Calif. DMV as you know offers the option to bypass smog for 8 years on a new car if you pay 50 bucks every two years I believe. I still have my FK8 turbo from my 21 CTR but I just saw a Hondata video showcasing how much better the FL5 Turbo is compared to the FK8’s when installed on an Accord 2.0t. Not sure if this is an under the radar/smog option for me but I found it to be an interesting potential option. Look forward to your future videos and just wanted to say positive vibes always trumps hate…especially in the comment section!😁👍👍👍

Yeah, like it’s a great car but pretty dang tired how nearly all car reviews are provided by the companies. Everyone is biased. Same thing happens with video game reviews, tech, etc. Can’t speak the complete truth for worry of companies no longer providing review units. That’s why I like people like Scotty Kilmer, or Colin Moriarty(sacred symbols PlayStation podcast) who speak the complete truth/don’t work with companies to get review codes, etc.

To all who think the IC is simply for consistency and doesn’t add power in stock form, I’m just here to say you’re wrong. Charge loss is a thing and just about every single car with a stock IC sees heat soak even on the very first hard run. It’s not like it takes 5 full throttle pulls to see IATs climb too high. It’s literally on the very first run.
