Ever tried books that are towards cultivation? Examples: Path of ascension by c. mantis and Beware of chicken by casualfsrmer They tend to be less focused on stats and levels.

LitRPGs are just super addictive. I've consumed around 25 audiobooks within just 4 months. This stuff is just so enjoyable. I'm just affraid I will run out of good audiobooks soon :D

Check out my other video where I say LitRPG is he most addictive, in the comments are a ton of great recommendations. If you add them to your wish list on Audible they email you anytime they go on sale so ive bought most of mine for $6-8

The only LitRPG that I have read thus far is Cradle and I really liked it. Haven't read book 12 yet, though. I did the DCC Kickstarter, so I am looking forward to that.

For the physical book? Think it has illustrations right? I love DCC, the audiobook is superior, really another level. I’m only 4 books into Cradle. I’d say it’s lore progression not full LitRPG? Their power ranking level definitely fits but not as stat or loot heavy.
@Rogue_VI9 ай бұрын
@@AverageJoesLibrary For DCC it's the physical book. I've heard good things about it and it sounded interesting, so I figured why not. I heard someone call Cradle LitRPG, so that what I assumed it was because I really know nothing about the sub-genre.

Great Video. Just recently finished the latest Dungeon Crawler Carl book and loved it. Primal Hunter is really good as well, the first two books were probably the weakest so if you like it so far it only gets better. Working on Defiance 12 now but not sure if I'll finish it, the series was much better pre time skip in my opinion. Way too focused on the main character and leveling, not enough side characters.

I definitely agree with Defiance. I miss the incursion days ha. Like just give them one to participate in. So far I’m liking the leveling in PH it reminds me of defiance, it’s Jake I have a hard time with. He’s not a believable character, definitely the weakest aspect.

LitRPG is the Mills and Boon of of the Fantasy/ SF genre…
@Hidinginyourcupboard10 ай бұрын
I guess ‘Ready Player One’ technically falls into this genre
@AverageJoesLibrary10 ай бұрын
I’d argue it doesn’t. It’s more about puzzles and the quest but there isn’t much of any leveling or hunting for gear.

@@AverageJoesLibrary Ah - I’m just finding out about these books since yesterday, so trying to think how to compare them from what I know. Downloaded some samples to give them a whirl 👍🏼

I hate it when people yuck other people's yums, but I don't understand LitRPG... AT ALL. I've played D&D for almost 40 years. Loving gaming. Love stories and drama. I do not understand why you would randomly inject RPG mechanics into a story that WASN'T a game. Mechanics are great in games, but their purpose is to interact with the randomness to determine success or failure - the famous "ludonarrative". If there is no chance of failure because an author is just writing a story, what do the mechanics / numbers-go-up do for me? They are not progress. They are not earned. So why do I have this constant 4th wall breaking reminder that everything in this story is fake (and often self-aware of its fakeness). Where is the drama? I just don't understand what it adds. Especially if authors are making up their own mechanics that the reader doesn't know. And DOUBLY ESPECIALLY if the author is just making up mechanics as they go along, and aren't even operating a well-designed and balanced game system. What is the point?! It's just constant deus ex machina. Or new powers ex machina. I'm happy other people like it. Everyone should create and enjoy what they like. I just don't understand it. And that's OK.

Yea that makes sense. It does give them their own opportunity to justify why there is a leveling system. Probably why a very common theme is end of the world/world being taken over/integrated with a system like universe. He who fights with monsters is done very well, even dungeon crawler Carl is good and interesting because it’s a “show.” Iron Prince is the straight up Sci Fi one where you get a piece of tech and it grows and evolves with you the more you train. But the reading of stats and breaking the 4th wall as you say is a common annoyance.

Here's one reason people enjoy it that you might get - theorycrafting. I don't know if you've ever done it, but I used to create character and character builds not because I'd be playing with others, but just for fun. When you're reading a LitRPG, especially a well written one, you often have enough information to start 'building' your own character. Figuring out how and what you'd choose, what you'd do differently. It lets you imagine playing in that world, or those scenarios. I'd also add, a lot of the time, in 'traditional' RPG books, the characters don't see the mechanics. They never know it. In LitRPGs, you know the system is there, it exists and it's another 'force' you have to contend with, one you can manage and manipulate. Theorycraft too, just like the reader, to optimise a build.

The ones that are more towards cultivation tend to have less stats show and more of a progression as other fantasy progression in my experience and maybe is more for you if you want to try em out
