I would say if you make 30K GBP (gross before taxes and NI) then you can cover all your expenses and have 0 - 2K savings. Overall I would say that the UK is an expensive country with mediocre salaries. This is why the cost of living is a big issue in the UK because salaries are average compared to global standards while expenses are high compared to global standards

I’ll be getting a salary of 40k after probation (entry level job) based at Gatwick. So far I think Croydon is a decent area for commuting (flat share obviously). Any other areas in London? Also looking outside London.

@@DesiCoupleinLondon yes i thought so too. decent starting salary I felt and transport from croydon is cheap to gatwick, especially with rail card and oyster card. Not too concerned about different cultures as I will be moving from the Netherlands. :)

Childcare costs are really high. Full time childcare costs somewhere from 1600-2000 pounds. Mostly around 2000 pounds per month, so you would need atleast that much just for full time childcare if both parents are working.
