ABSOLUTELY! They are ruled by their nose, so when they smell food, it's off to the races. That's why we humans must be the "adults" in the room. It is so easy for beagles to become obese and then they will have all kinds of physical problems.

Thanks for all the great information! Could you do a video addressing INSIDE digging? Our 13 month old Beagle insists she wants to dig on the couch, rugs, and bedspreads. We don't care if she digs outside, but NOT inside. Please help!

Here are a few things you can do: Increase Physical Exercise: Beagles are energetic dogs. More walks or playtime outside can help expend that energy, reducing the urge to dig indoors. Mental Stimulation: Engage your Beagle's mind with puzzle toys, scent games, or training sessions. This can help redirect her energy and focus away from destructive behaviors. Provide a Digging Alternative: Create a designated digging spot outside, like a sandbox. Encourage her to dig there by hiding toys or treats in the sand. Positive Reinforcement Training: When your Beagle digs in an appropriate place, reward her with treats and praise. If she starts to dig indoors, gently redirect her to the proper digging spot and reward her for using it. Manage the Environment: Temporarily restrict access to favorite indoor digging spots. Use pet gates or close doors to make these areas off-limits. Discourage Indoor Digging: If you catch her digging indoors, calmly redirect her to another activity. Avoid scolding, as negative attention can inadvertently reinforce the behavior. Consistency is Key: Consistently redirecting and rewarding the desired behavior is crucial. My Beagle is very intelligent and her hearing is very sharp . The only drawback is that my Beagle does sleep very comfortably. But when provided with a bed the Beagle bites and tears the bed .

Yeah they do it when they are puppies. You will have to teach them not to by redirecting their behavior to a toy. Manage to do it for 7 days and you are good to go.

Beagles are excellent dogs, however my only complaint is that they are OBSESSED with food. We’ve owned many dogs before and the 2 beagles we have right now have by far been the most food crazed dogs we’ve had by a long shot. If you’re getting a beagle, try to rescue/get from responsible breeder and also be aware of this.

Beagles are constantly chewing...they would rather it be food but if not, a stick or your sock or even the trash will do...lol. Make sure you buy them chew toys they like and praise them when they use the correct toys. They want to please AND chew so giving them the correct things to chew helps.
