The reason the R34 GTR and other skylines have skyrocketed. Is because people in the states can now attain R32's, and are soon able to attain R33's and R34's. Back in 2009 R34 GTR's were fetching for around the 30-40k nzd mark. And since the US market have been buying skylines up, they're not really a common sight on NZ roads anymore.

If you really wanted to get a skyline for budget today I would try to get a Nissan Silva from around the same time and then slowly piece together all of the skyline parts with some minor fabrication to make it a custom kit car that has a chassis that is ready for racing already. It won’t ever be worth near as much as the skyline but if you only care about the driving experience it would be a fun project that would save a significant amount of resources (especially if you do the vast majority of the work yourself but if your not knowledgeable about turbos and tuning them that is something you definitely would want to hire a professional on to ensure you don’t destroy a 10-30 thousand dollar engine. You can get aftermarket body parts to not have to spend top dollar on oem.
