USC played hard yesterday but Penn state had stars at critical positions DT (Abdul Carter), TE ( Tyler Warren ), and QB (Drew Allar), players who are definite high NFL draft picks and James Franklin has completely rebuilt the progran, returning it to when Peterno was running it in his prime. Unfortunately, perception is reality today, and thr perception of Linvoln Riley in the fan base is that he had not elivated this program. He has lost too many important games, is losing in the transfer portal battle and is losing out on too many star recruits. USC should be a destination point for the top college players, including the academic ones, it is So Cal, it has so much glorious history, it should be the SHOW! It has standards like the New York Yankees and Lincoln Riley is not meeting them.

It doesn't make any difference which conference USC is in. The same issues have plagued USC since 2022 it was only Caleb Williams that masked most of those issues. Utah, Washington, Oregon, UCLA beat USC up in the P12 too so that argument doesn't hold water that the BIG teams are dominating USC. It starts with the HC and Lincoln Riley has proven since his days at Oklahoma that he's a soft HC who's teams can't finish games.

It isn't necessarily all Riley's fault. He isn't a good coach in this situation. Garbage defense and and an obscene amount of errors by undisciplined players. This is nothing new. USC is mediocre and Riley will succeed someplace else after failing here like Sark.
