If anyone is wondering why the train 5:18 is not releasing smoke out of the smoke stack, it’s because the train was converted to using oil instead of coal (to my knowledge)
@Jo-rz6bs Жыл бұрын
If the engineers are good at their job, they're pulling enough air through to burn coal fully and not produce smoke. A lot of photos they'll deliberately choke the firebox since they get the "train doesn't look like it's doing anything" complaint.

I absolutely adore that video of the locomotive, looking back especially to see three generations of transportation, the living relic still heartily chuffing along as if it were still its second day on the job, the restored classic lovingly kept in pristine condition, and the modern passenger vehicle filming the whole scene as all three speed down the freeway. So awesome.

AFAIK the US Army is testing an unmanned version of the Ripsaw atm. I forget what they were calling it, it is basically a Ripsaw that IS (note: as in no consideration for people inside it) remotely operated, with a machinegun or small autocannon on top. Same type of mount you see for those remotely operated guns on AFVs and tanks and whatnot. With some light armor (looks like it might stop a 5.56 or something). Seems like it would make a nice addition to the tools available for recon or for say, another tool for convoy escort or something like that.

5:12 before any of you start complaining about the diesel engine behind it, it’s only there for the electronic systems and to give the engine a slight push. Even though 3751 could easily pull that train the diesel engine is there to give it a push so that it doesn’t use up as much fuel. Railroads today are simply not built for steam and need meticulous planning in order to supply it with fuel.

0:16 That's a doodlebug. (No, not the German flying bomb,) it's the same idea as tractor pulling, but for stupid cheap. Rather than a mechanized sled, it's just a flat slab with heavy blocks on it. And rather than a purpose-built pulling tractor, it's just the bare minimum of parts, with as much stripped off the frame as possible. That's the first one I've seen built out of a commercial truck, but they haven't actually had doodlebugs at my local fair in over a decade.
