This video gave me great joy on so many levels. Which people in general were more curious in why things are the way they are. I think that neurotypical people (my prejudice) lose their curiosity in new music and knowledge with age … but personally with my ADHD brain, which searches out dopamine reward constantly and that’s constantly curious, new things are sought after. My music taste evolves with new experiences. As a 60+ I can trace my music evolution path backwards but still the music I absolutely love today (progressive metalcore) is an acquired taste through engaging with new music.

I think some animals recognize rhythm, but they don't appreciate the emotional impact

I think you’re right about that. They might even hear melody, but I’m guessing it doesn’t “move” them.

Andrew, I was wondering why as people age, they generally stop making any effort to listen to "new" music. Radio stations even cater for this, for example playing the old 1960's or 70's music. Even when the older people hear some new music ( that all the younger people like) , they say its not as good as the old stuff. Is it something to do with neurotransmitters and their general decline in aging, that they can't "learn" this new music.

Since getting anhedonia, I don't enjoy music. It makes it harder to relate to others.
