HOW MY DOG ESCAPED!

As a vet student, this is for Joey, just as an education on crates and crate culture for training. That is mainly for puppies that are in a new home as the crate can feel like a secure place. We usually recommend leaving the door OPEN. We do NOT recommend crates for leaving dogs alone anymore. That was a style of training that was very popular in the late 90's and early 2,000's, but very quickly most vets and trainers quit recommending it because it was abused by people who didn't know what they were doing. Also, that panting Wolf was doing was anxiety. He was extremely anxious and did not feel "safe" in the crate. The correct thing to do is to teach the dog to respect the home when you are not there. You leave kings filled with treats and peanut butter, etc...using a crate in that way is like putting a bandaid on a bullet hole, an ineffective, extremely temporary solution. I hope now that wolf has been fixed that Joey has reconsidered the crate and does not use it anymore as a form of confinement.

We stopped using a cage for our husky when he was around 10 months. It's not really necessary if he doesn't continue to destroy your things from separation anxiety. But if Wolf is destroying things when you leave, then wait a bit longer.

I know you love wolf and try to do what's best for him, but my advice is to at least choose one room in the house for him to stay in while you are gone where there is nothing to ruin and there is plenty of water and a place to go to the bathroom (like puppy training potty mats) or let him go outside while you are gone, but that could be dangerous because of the pool. I have 4 dogs and one is a 3 year old Labrador. Labs have a long puppy phase and she is starting to grow out of it. While training her she had a kennel two or three times larger then wolfs with toys and water (she was also the same size). We learned she had separation anxiety and would escape her crate in crazy ways. We knew she hated the kennel and we even though she got into the trash and other things, we dealt with it. It's part of having a pet, but it makes them happy. We had a large side yard which my rabbit stayed in during who died of a hard attack :'( so when he pasted away we started keeping my Labrador in the sectioned off area of the yard and she was much happier, she did dig into the main yard a few times, but ya. I'm just saying the weight amount it what the crate can hold not what the animal likes.

The problem with where joey lives is it hot so wolf cant be left outside as husky's are known for getting heat stroke, and the main point of cage training is to stop them weeing in the house :)

I tried to color my orchid with food coloring, because I read that's how you do it. I think it took me about 6 months for it to turn a light blueish. But for a quicker and more intense result, at the store they cut a piece of the stem out and drop the coloring directly in to the flower. You can also use a syringe.

JoeyGraceffa I have a answer on what you should do with Wolf :) You could probably get a bigger cage or something... Because he is escaping because he's bored. But if he has a bigger cage, he won't get bored because there's more room for him to move and play. So I recommend getting a bigger cage for him! I just want to hug Wolfe. I miss hugging my furry child Charlie, he was my hunkyspunkychunkymonkey. RIP Charlie boy my gorgeous kitten, handsome. for those who said Wolf's crate/cage was too small for him. it wasn't. a dog's crate should only be big enough for them to stand, turn around, lay down, and sit upright. this helps to discourage them from using one side as a potty and retreating to the other, which would make training harder.

Wolf is one spoiled and extremely loved dog. We can't be with our animals 24/7 so sometimes to make sure they are safe and won't get into trouble, you have to put them in a cage. It's not physically hurting the dog. They just don't want to be in there. Kinda like when your mom would send you to your room when you were in trouble. You didn't want to be in there, but you were fine. :)

He could accidentally fall into the pool and drown :( Also it's a husky, they hate heat, and as it is california, it would most likely be unnecessary to keep him in the backyard..

ariasmayraa you should never leave a dog in a backyard unattended, when you are home and they are only out for a little while its okay but definitely never when no one is home, especially where they live and husky's are northern breeds and do not do well in hot climates

Why would you take an unfixed dog to a dog park.. that is the biggest no no. Unless you want to deal with dogs mating and being stuck together or two males getting into a fight just get them desexed. It will make training easier and calmer!

Dogs aren't constantly thinking of sex unless a female is in the heat its not very likely before Wolf is a year old :)

And anyway I wasn't realy disagreeing with you just pointing out although it could happen it wasn't very likely :)

Alice Wathen they reach sexual maturity at around 5 months but show mounting behaviour even earlier if he smells a female he will definitely show interest and is very likely he will mount her

tigger1995Magi They show mounting behaviour before 5 months but at that stage probably have no idea what they are doing its just instinct/dominance not sexual. I'm pretty sure wolf isn't 7 months old yet (Joey got him 6 months ago) and that when statistically dogs seek to mate but obviously its different for all dogs :)
