STREET ELEMENTS MAGAZINE delivers the unfiltered reality of the streets. We begin by exploring the deliberate impact of the CRACK epidemic on urban communities, which has caused immense suffering for countless families. As a convicted felon with experiences of both state and federal prison, I have come to understand that the system is inherently stacked against us. Therefore, it is my duty to reveal the truth about the streets. It's important to remember that the streets show no love to anyone.
April 22, 1995 The Hillsborough State Attorney's Office filed formal charges Friday against two men implicated in the shootings of two Tampa police officers last month. The man investigators say fired the assault rifle, 20-year-old Antonio Neal, was charged last week with a dozen counts ranging from attempted murder of a law enforcement officer to trafficking in cocaine. Police say Neal, Gary Tippins and John Hollis were robbery suspects the night of March 23 when police began to chase the car in which the three were in the back seat. Two women who were in the front of the car, the driver and a passenger, later told police they wanted to stop, but the men threatened them. After the women bailed out, one of the men took over the wheel and slammed into a parked bus. They all got out. Tippins, 19, was arrested near the scene. Hollis, 17, was later arrested at his parents' home. But police say Neal shot at two officers in a patrol car and later wounded two other officers who were pursuing him. Officer Michael Vigil suffered serious internal injuries. Officer Kevin Howell was shot in both legs. Both are recovering at Tampa General Hospital. Police say that in the search that followed, Neal also aimed his gun at another officer and broke into a shed before he was arrested. Investigators found 44 grams of cocaine, a small amount of marijuana and a pipe in his bag. Friday, both Tippins and Hollis were charged with armed trafficking in cocaine, armed kidnapping of the two women, carjacking, four counts of attempted murder of the two officers in the car and Vigil and Howell and being felons in possession of firearms. Hollis also was charged with fleeing and eluding a police officer.
