@@chrisazure1624 Doctorate in psychology here - and, I was taught that we don't diagnose someone we've never seen/spoken to in person, before I even received my master's degree. How does having a psychology degree equal one's knowledge of a religion - especially, a religion one doesn't practice? It doesn't. Only this young man knows what went on at home, before his parent's divorce. Perhaps, the father was a total jerk? And, no excuses for the mother's behavior, whatsoever. Once you read the Qur'an/Hadiths (as someone that has been taught to apply common sense and critical thinking skills...) and you truly understand what it is you're reading, the faith has lost its appeal - if there was any there to begin with. Defensive? I think not. I simply disagree with your approach and conclusion.

Nothing wrong in honoring or respecting your parents. The problem is, if and when there is an abusive parent. In the West, the mother of this young man would be arrested for child abuse. She had no right to take her anger out on her child which she harbored against her father and possibly her husband. It is not the child's fault. Good thing he left them.

I getcha, parenting like this just causes harm and suffering We need to teach people that consensual non reproductive incest is perfectly fine, this can help alleviate grudge between family members. This usually helps traditional couples too, they argue, they have make up sex and feel okay afterwards. Sometimes releasing that angery tension and getting a good massage after is all one needs in life and a fat beef burger with melted cheese and a cigar after make up sex.... perfect ❤❤❤

That's terrible. She sounds like she has NPD. Have you looked into that? The Risalat al-Huquq attributed to 'Ali Zayn al-'Abideen, son of Husayn ibn 'Ali, says that parental rights depend upon parental responsibilities and that children have to be treated with compassion; but culturally, the respect due to parents mentioned in Islam is heavily abused by parents. Surah Luqman says to follow Islam, but if your parents make you do something unIslamic then don't follow them (e.g. tolerating abuse is unIslamic).

I knew a woman who’d been beaten and sadistically abused as a child. As a mother, she was unpredictable and difficult, but she did have the self awareness to stop that vicious cycle. She did NOT beat her children because she did not want her children to go through the same things she had. I greatly admired that woman. She came from a poor background, had little education, no access to therapy. But she had love for her children and the will to make their lives slightly better than her life had been.

It's one thing to be beaten and abused by thugs or by prison guards - even if it was dreadful it kind of fades with time (though some of it remains in you). Yes, allah's love is conditional and that's because human love is conditional: which is a behavior allah has in common with us. Although the qur'an claims allah has nothing in common with creation, his behavior clearly contradicts that. Claiming allah is infinite only makes things worse for islam because an infinite God ought to love infinitely (meaning: UNconditionally), and the same ought to be true for God's peace. But no, when you do no do what he wants and don't ask for forgiveness, you'll burn alive in hell for an eternity (which is an act of violence, proving that allah's peace is finite, not infinite)...

This also happens in the Christian community as well. When in the Christian household children are being abused by the parents and when they try to seek help from the adult family members, their teachers, the authorities or even their own community, the very same people that the children were supposed to trust are justifying the cruelty by saying nonsense like:" Spare the rod, spoil the child" and "You must always worship, love, honour and obey your parents just like how you must always worship, love, honour and obey God." and start quoting the Bible to make their idiotic ranting valid.

if what other people say or do shape your thinking on whether something is true or not like a religion or a philosophy then you’re just basically saying that you are controlled by your emotions and not by your reason and logic. adults shouldn’t act or think this way that’s just being simple minded and lacking independent thinking skills. Parents are ruining their children's lives daily (in the name of Islam/ religion). It's also a very common occurrence in western countries (I'm a victim in Canada). If the abuse stems from religious teachings, then I don't think it takes away from the original arguments, rather it could only strengthen/ support them. I think ex-muslims need to start speaking out more about their experiences. I did not leave Islam because of my personal experiences. But, what my family did to me, led me to start studying Islam on a deeper level, and that's when I started to understand just how vile of a religion Islam truly is, and realized how my family was able to justify abusing me for many, many years.
