From challenging stereotypes to reclaiming narratives, Indigenous women like Lily Gladstone and Erica Tremblay are reshaping the landscape of cinema. Join us as we explore how matriarchal structures within Indigenous societies have paved the way for a cinematic movement centered around the "return to storytelling" in film and TV.
Discover the transformative impact of films like "Fancy Dance" and the importance of portraying Indigenous women as multi-dimensional characters. Through interviews with filmmakers and industry experts, we learn about the challenges and triumphs of Indigenous women behind the camera.
Join us as we celebrate the richness and diversity of Indigenous narratives, challenging outdated tropes and paving the way for authentic representation.

Nice to know there’s a semblance of an antidote to all the Spaghetti Westerns we bought into wholesale.

7:36 In my case, my mom and my grandfather read a lot of Westerns. Also, they only showed Westerns at my mom’s school because they didn’t have ‘intimate’ scenes and were deemed child-friendly.

This was an awesome episode! I would love to see Cheyenne do long-form episodes that look at film thru a more critical lens.

It is fabulous to see Indigenous women taking ownership and telling their own stories in cinema at last. Because I study old forms of indigenous culture - like pre-1860s - I sometimes think about the class clown type on a hunt being delightful and insufferable; the quiet moments at a favorite view; and trying to sleep in because your neighbor's baby was loud all night. The basic humanity does come through sometimes, even in the dry and often problematic ethnographies, but a lot of the time it's just me filling in the blanks.

Resident Alien is a sci fi show that has Native representation. It's also good if you like quirky sci fi comedy, which is very niche.
