Awesome video!! I especially like the part about how you can tweak it depending on the guards you've got. However, there doesn't seem to be much variation with the bigs. Is that correct? As the saying goes "Defense wins championships". I remember in the video on GSW's horns breakdown, the nuggets knew how to defend it. Could you also do on court demos of defense or at least explain with cartoons? Looking forward to breakdowns of other offense styles like the Princeton, triangle.

Anirudh Krishna Thanks for the comment! The next shoot we do, we'll have defense for sure. And we've already shot the triangle offense, just need to edit it...

My pro am team run horns on NBA 2k about 80 percent of the time and then we usually snap into a 3 out extended. It's really neat.

Some of it is read and react. Thibs told me if the PG can't pass to the high post b/c he's being denied, then they just break into a PnR, since the defense will not be in position to defend that...

So excitied get replied. Coach, you know that in China, there is a lot of your fans, actually more that you can imagine...someone even make the subtile in chinese to help ones who don't speak English. The concepts of 'horn', 'one pass away', 'ice' that we didn't know before really help us a lot.
@TheQtip2811 жыл бұрын
There seems to be a lot movement in Horns. I am falling in love with this set. I wonder if any college team will start to run this set or even better, can it be successful in college game today? This is a great video. If i were a coach, this would be 40% of my offence. It a great offence for shooters. Thanks Coach.

ANy time you play an aggressive man to man, it makes it tough on the offense. Especially if they deny the pass to the high post.
@pouihurmen11 жыл бұрын
You can also run the double ball screen like this: 4 and 5 both screen the same way so the point guard goes around two players. Now one big man rolls to the hoop and the other one becomes a Pick and Pop option

The farther players can stay away from AAU, the better. That said, you are right, prime evaluation time is during the summer. It didn't used to be that way, and I have no doubt we could go back to the way it was when scouts came to high school games only
@IcantThinkOfAname911 жыл бұрын
weak spots of the zone are the top of the key, baseline and corner 3's. So I guess variations of pinch post, slashing to the basket by the baseline, dribble penetration and swinging the ball, basically how you beat any zone.

Hey Coach Nick, This video was great! I tried running Horns with my summer league team this past summer and it had very mixed results. In our league lots of teams ran various zones (2-3 zone, 1-2-2 zone) and I was wondering if Horns is just as effective vs a zone defense as it is against a man-to-man defense? Would you run a Horns offense against a zone?

Hey coach, I'm a big fan of your channel and I love watching the breakdowns, I try to keep up with them regularly. I have a question- I hear you regularly mention not helping one pass away, and I understand not wanting to give up a wide open jumper. However, wouldn't the defender need to take a few more things into account before deciding immediately not to help- such as A) his man's shooting percentage, B) is the player with the ball going to cause middle penetration? Thanks.

The elevator option is great. I wonder why the heat are not running this option with ray allen even for just a few times in a game. I can remember the heat revived the horns on this era when they first established the Big 3. Other teams followed to run horns after the heat got huge success out of it.

Hey Coach, first of all thank you for your incredible work! you helped me a lot in becomming a better coach for my team. i´ve got a question for you: do you see any Horns-Options working against a Zone-Defense? e.g. a 2-3 (2-1-2-). here in Europe, it is used a lot, and often even more than man vs. man- defense.

Have you received any calls from the nba to be an assistant coach or smth of that sort yet? Coz i think you should.
@logicalparadox1211 жыл бұрын
Speaking from experience as a guard, the elevator play is very good when it works, but it's also difficult to execute without smart bigmen, especially at the high school level. The man defending one of the bigs can easily step over to contest the shot. In that case, the screeners must be aware enough to either clearout and let the guard take advantage of the mismatch, or dive to the basket against the smaller defender caught in the elevator screen.
