I remember the big jars of mussels you could buy, dad would occasionally win one in a pub raffle and bring them home so good to eat that would have been in the late 60's dredged from the Hauraki gulf on a commercial license you could buy from the post office for 10 quid. Later Dad lived in Coromandel and many of Mum and Dads friends were the early Mussel farmers and farm workers a great industry now bringing the mussel beds back to the gulf :)

beautiful documentary to stumble upon. With all the problems we are bombarded with it is refreshing to see dedicated people writing a few wrongs. Thinking about generations to come is sobering.

I always look at the sediment in the sounds when I fly over. Pasture land has the most, pine forest has less, and the sea below native bush has the least amount of sediment. It's very obvious, especially after rain. The other thing that stands out every time I dive there is the weed lines and kelp forest. It seems to be a ghost town until you get out closer to the open sea, apart from Tory Channel which has more water movement from ferry wake. When the ferry goes past you get a wall of sediment under water from the wake reflecting off the shore. It's an interesting experience under water. Keep up the good work!

Great idea especially since iv been a part of the mussel industry but did you notice nearer the end all the starfish trying to feast on the mussels. Keep up the good work. 👍

Fresh water mussels are so difficult to reproduce because they remain in the gills of very large fish for 3 years. As the large river fishes are not numerous....

I am looking for a partner organization that I can collaborate with to send to your country, because I have a green shellfish farm that is very beautiful with traditional cultivation.
