Thank you so much once again, the ever effervescent, highly spirited, determined Mathematical7. You have brought me live into the action spot at Surulere. That team was classic and you were a masterclass. Just look at the urgency in that very first goal, today's footballers would have probably waste the chance thinking 'the match just started, that there is still time'. But just like you pointed out, that goal was just the tonic the Eagles needed to demoralize the Algerian Dessert Warriors. A million congratulations to the the entire team, the technical crew that did such a wonderful job, selecting just the best set of players without collecting bribes from under-performing players to the detriment of the team, I must commend the Sunday Dankaro led NFA board for being proactive in appointing the right man for the job in the person of the Brazilian Otto Gloria and also sponsoring the team to Brazil for a training tour. I pray that same spirit and team work return to the every Nigerian national team.

Sadly look at the state of the national stadium 🏟 now because back then it was one of the best stadiums in Africa 🌍 and now it should be modernised with the present stadiums in the world today but not meant to be 😦😧

Great throwback video.Thanks for doing it. But I would have loved the following questions to be asked: 1. How did Segun Odegbami make or get into the team? 2. How many members of the 1980 squad are still alive that he could recollect? 3. What did they get from the Nigerian govt after the historic (First ever AFCON) win. 4. Which player did he look up to then for inspiration. 5. Seeing how football pays today, what gave players a sense fulfillment back then? Finally, I must say it's very distasteful to see a national monument as the National Stadium in such a messy state. SMH!

What a big shame on all department of sport in Nigeria to destroyed our own Wembley stadium of nigeria. National stadium supposed to be the number one stadium in Nigeria. But unfortunately the sport department never understood the meaning of history and historical venue.

Segun Odegbami seems to give too much credit to the " Supporters' Club". Every spectator was a very strong supporter. Not the members of the supporters club who watched "matches" for free.
