I just noticed that the xGoals/xPoints values might be not valid at all: Pep's genius system at Bayern resulted in less xPoints than Kovac's "non-existing system" as the German sports media uses to criticize Kovac's lack of tactical abilities. Or maybe they are all wrong and Kovac is a much bigger genius than Pep...

Well, he didn't get the players he wanted. Neither did he get much support from the bosses. They tried to cover their failures (bad signings, renewing the squad) by putting the pressure on him. Bayern always plays Bayern style since Van Gaal so I don't know how much they expected him to change a set squad. But in my opinion, he has done a good job. This season they have started furiously and I expect them to do better in the Champions League. No Robbery at that age is actually a good thing.

@@juang8360 Niko Kovac did a big mistake with signing a contract with bayern munich. he knew that his philosophie isn't right for the bayern squad, but he did not want to miss this huge chance. eintracht frankfurt had obviously a different style than bayern. in frankfurt, kovac played an agressive football with closing the centre and fast switching actions. these priciples with the main formations (3-5-2, 3-4-1-2, 3-4-3). At Bayern he wanted to be more carefully and extravagant in posession phases. He had the same vision as he coached the croatian national-team. everyone knows how he ended up there. he has found his own style, which he could clearly convey to a team. Bayern was not the right club for his ideas. In this season thee are a lot oft mistakes in the building ups. Often 2 players are located in one zone, the ZDM sometimes tilts unnecessarily and the whole style of play is adapt to robert lewandowski. in my opinion, kovac will never be the right coach for this talentful squad. kovac is a great coach, but he needs players like in frankfurt, schalke, freiburg or bremen. these players would be able to accept his agressive, full of switches, style of play, which made him succesful in frankfurt.

Actually, Niko Kovac didnt failed at his first year in Munich... to be honest it was a good season for Bayern Munich... he lost in the Championsleague against Liverpool, like all teams.... and won the DFB-Pokal and the Bundesliga with 9 points behind Dortmund. He also has a really hard job at Bayern Munich... to replace Ribery & Robben and to improve the stability of the Defence... For replacing Ribery & Robben he didnt got Sane, Nicolas Pépé or Huddson Odoi.... he just have to work with Perisic... I know Perisic isnt that bad, but he is not on the same level as for example Leroy Sane.... For improving the Defence, he did got Lucas Hernández and Pavard so the Defence got stronger then last year... Hernandez and Pavard also need some time to get really comfortable with the new club. I think he has done a good job so far... Not unbelievably good work, but that can still be proven in the rest of the season. If he achive, that Coutinho gets comfortable in Munich and improve players like Coman, Gnabry, Tolisso and Kimmich, then he will be a very good coach.

People blamed Kovač for getting us knocked out from the Champions League as early as the round of 16 last season. But that surely wasn't Kovač' fault. We had terrible team last season. In the games against Liverpool, Gnabry and Coman couldn't deliver anything, James Rodriguez also failed to impress, our defense was nothing like the way it is today. And our bench, oh dear, I wanted to cry when I saw our bench against Liverpool. So it's not Kovač'fault at all. But this season, with the addition of Coutinho, Lucas, Pavard and Perišić, we are a strong team. Neuer also got his form back. So now our defense, midfield and forward all looks good. Hope we will do much better in Champions League than the last season. In Kovač We Trust ⚽ Mia San Mia ❤

Kovac is the definition of a "transition coach." He is not bad at all, but when things get difficult Bayern looks like a team lacking creativity or tactical advantages. Finally he lost his Job... In my Opinion, as a long time Municy Fan and educated Coach myself, Kovac didn't get a real Chance to unlock his concept on Bayern. While his wish was to play a more aggressive Football in a 343 or 433 Formation, he was forced by Munics Management buying central offensive midfielders with world-class, like James last or Coutinho this season, to play an 4231, that he didn't want to. With this system and its more midfieldpress structure for defensive play, he wasnt able neither to create a aggressive pressing nor a creative offensive style by dominatimg the middle with much possesion and short passing combinations, like Munic is used to do. So what i saw the last 18 Months were opponents defending deep in the own half, and Munic with 1 or 2 good counters per game, but mostly Kimmich throwing cross and cross and cross from the half right side in hope to find Lewandowski. Overall the style of play went worse week by week and even the results were more "individual strength" then tactic or teamplay related. Last to say if Borussia Dortmund wouldn't perform bad too (thats why bayern isn't that far away from rank 1 in the league/you can expect to see their Coach Lucien Favre fired in the season break) , Kovac already would be thrown out like 3 weeks ago.

windydonutz Not true. Van Gaal established the focus on ball posession in Munich which Heynckes built upon. He introduced high pressing, with focus on positioning and always had high ball posession. Pep built upon that, reaching the semi finals and becoming German champion three times in a row. Dont forget what Bayern did to the likes of Arsenal of City during the time. Also, Pep introduced a lot of systems while Heynckes usually stuck to 4-2-3-1. Peps likes to have the ball (but so did Jupp and LVG) and might be stubborn but there have been countless brilliant games under him. When it really went downhill was when Carlo took over who wanted to establish a system (4-3-3) similar to what you used to have with real. More counterattacking, more Individuality. Kovac in contrast stands for nothing. I would take Pep back at and chance.

They are being more conservative in defense though only one of the fullback is attacking changing there buildup shape to a 3241 this way building a deep block in the oppositions zone preventing counter attacks from happening. This didnt happen last season. However the team showed defensive weakness vs Tottenham specially to the Target man style of Tottenham where they kept pulling a CB out of there line opening up space for son to penetrate the line. This Target man was always kane and he had to options either a direct pass to Delle Ali who gave a through pass to Son or Kane himseld standing on the ball and Opening up wide for a full back who had all the time and space to run and give a perfect pass into the penalty area and there was always a Spurs player to recieve, Neuer saved the team. The introduction of thiago in the second half solved the problem but also not entirely
