Fasting may be to (shed grossness thus rasing the overall frequency level of a human system) fast track spiritual progress by enabling/promoting receptivity to cosmic energy/grace (by improving chakra/energy vortices function (hence it may promote healing/wellbeing as well; perhaps other beings intuitively take to fasting (and may stay put at a safe place to conserve energy) when taken ill or injured/wounded) but a clean, healthy gut and naturally balanced and deep breathing (with perhaps minimal/conducive wear and habitat that's sufficiently pervious to cosmic currents) may be essential to be effective. Isolated/bound/bottled human spirit may need subtler energy supply to transcend/expand or commune with the Holy spirit - this may be akin to an electron needing higher energy to jump to a higher orbit. Cosmic energy is perhaps subtler form of energy and higher the chakra, subtler may be the energy being transmitted.
