This video is very helpful. If you call for a tow and you won't be waiting at your vehicle, you certainly want to make it easy for the tow truck driver to pick up your vehicle.

I used to use Dawn dish soap and water in a squirt bottle. Sprayed on the bed where the tires need to go and it would slide like ice. Nice truck.

I watched your tow of the Hummer today and couldn't help wonder if jacking the wheels up and setting them on little dollies that are used to move cars around inside a repair shop, would have been faster and easier.
@Towtruck_Dustin2 жыл бұрын
That would have gotten it out of the garage, but I’d still have needed skates to load it. How the bed is on this truck, the gojaks wouldn’t roll into the bed.

Cool trick. I thought for sure you were going to pull out wheel dolleys. Not sure if putting it in neutral like that will cause problems later. Maybe your dispatch could tell owners how to leave their vehicles if they do not want to incur any add-on charges?
@Towtruck_Dustin2 жыл бұрын
Popping the linkage is a common practice, and won’t cause any issues as they’re designed to pop off on most vehicles. Some are bolted or have a pin for retention. Popping those are where the damage comes into play. I don’t have Gojaks on this truck, and they would have only helped to get it out of the parking spot. Not into the bed really.
@stephonasbury81702 жыл бұрын
Great job. Would skates have done the same?
@Towtruck_Dustin2 жыл бұрын
You could have loaded it with skates, just wouldn’t have been as easy to “steer” it with skates. I can remove the blocks by hand. Skates you have to hammer in and out.
@stephonasbury81702 жыл бұрын
@@Towtruck_Dustin Got you what type of different wood would you recommend to have for a flatbed 2×4 or any kind?
@alankrenek53662 жыл бұрын
You can have dispatch explain how the vehicle should be left but their could be several reasons that won't work. 1 The customer is on the way to an appointment and it was called in by some one else. the vehicle stalled and won't go further. There are other reasons. I enjoyed the job and wish I was physically able to do it again. So I both applaud and condemn you. I have seen other channels that they may think they know what they are doing, I think you do. but I cant believe that you blame the customer for the inability to put the vehicle in the perfect way for you to hook it up and tow it. I have looked at 3-4 of your vids and it brings fond memory's, but please lighten up. remember you are providing a service. The customer is your paycheck.
@Towtruck_Dustin2 жыл бұрын
Exactly. In this case, the vehicle was left there overnight by his son, and they lived out of town. Would have taken longer to wait for them than it did to load it how I did.
@kevinreed709 Жыл бұрын
Was it up for repo,because if it were broke down people are usually there with the vehicle.
@Towtruck_Dustin Жыл бұрын
No, it’s fairly common to leave a vehicle unattended. Unfortunately it’s also very common to not leave the keys also.
@scottjames603510 ай бұрын
coming from a guy who tows over 20 years your trying but your making it harder that it is , a snatch block is a must on a winch line , never have to fiddle with the steering , i use them almost every tow
@Towtruck_Dustin10 ай бұрын
If you’re using a snatch block on every tow, you’re doing something wrong lol
@d-lowz-no99317 ай бұрын
The worst is steering wheel locked all the way to the left or right, locked with no keys. At that point, you don’t care so I don’t either. Drag it on and walk it off. Skates have left the chat.

So what is a wrecker is it like auction type or like what is like the definition of record like when someone calls for a wrecker and you go pick up the vehicle what are you doing basically??
@Towtruck_Dustin2 жыл бұрын
Just another name for a tow truck, that does the things any other tow truck does.
@JWTV3542 жыл бұрын
@@Towtruck_Dustin so wrecker is the truck name I thought it like a type category for the truck your picking up
@antsy6022 жыл бұрын
Thanks for showing another way. I think you're working to hard. Skates on a steel bed work great and the turned wheels are not a problem loading and unloading if you use them. The vehicle will slide right off. Wood can be problematic as you showed in the video.
@Towtruck_Dustin2 жыл бұрын
Yeah but skates take longer to use and they can’t just take them out without some extra work. Blocks might snag or catch sometimes but they’re imo, easier and faster to use.
@antsy6022 жыл бұрын
@@Towtruck_Dustin Pro tip: As the tire is almost off the bed the skates come off easy if you raise the bed a few inches and then you can pull the bed out from the car with a little shake. With loading, place the skates in front of the wheels and push them under the tires with the bed, no hammer needed. Been towing long before skates were a thing and did the wood thing. Skates are quicker IF I even use them at all.
@Towtruck_Dustin2 жыл бұрын
Good idea with using the bed to push them under.

Dude you made that way harder than it needed to be all you need to do is pull it up from the back and you would’ve had to slide the front wheels maybe a foot or two and made it a lot easier to unload as well
@Towtruck_Dustin Жыл бұрын
It’s against company policy to haul a full size truck or suv backwards, so I had to grab it from the front. Either way, the only hard part was pushing it by myself lol everything was easy lol
