How NOT to Name Your Superhero Characters!

I have a couple of superhero names that I tend to use in games. High Rise is a flyer, usually with Gravity powers or Super Strength. Blockbuster is your standard Brick, maybe with some sort of Earth powers. Skyscraper is a Giant-Man type. All of these were intended for a New York/Metropolis setting. Although my favorite one is Wyrd. He's usually a caster or shapeshifter, but his name is a gag. He called himself that to suggest he's a manifestation of destiny or something pretentious. What actually happens a lot though is; Citizen: Who's that guy? Other Citizen: Oh, he's Wyrd. C: I know he's weird, but what's his name? Happened so many times it became the running joke of the game.

Dragon ball characters are named after things you find in an American Wal-Mart. Good Characters make the names memorable, not the other way around. A great name on a lousy character is a waste of ink and eyes.

My original character is named Optomo. He's an electrical/mechanical Engineer and designed his own spectacles to give him multiples forms of super human vision (xray vision, thermal vision, microscopic vision, telescopic vision, and can calculate the force and angle of a punch being thrown at you. His name Optomo comes from Optometry, like an eye doctor.

Ik I’m a little late to the party but I got 2😂. The first has the ability to turn into a person shadow, become nearly invisible, and has shadow blades that can cut anything, I just called him by his name, Kevon Keller. The the second one can stop time, phase through reality, (when he does this time moves 16 times slower), And he has a jet pack. His name is Specter. Any of these good?

Super job! I think calling super-characters by their regular names is underrated, and I love the alliteration fo Kevon Keller. "Specter" is always a fun name; it's been used a few times in a variety of popular universes, but it's wide enough for new creators to use it just fine. If he's in the same universe as Kevon Keller, maybe consider adding another S-word to the name to make it even cooler? That's the only thing I would suggest. Like, Shadow Specter or something, idk. Hmm, let's think... This might be a good one to combine some of those power / weapon / backstory elements with a name, like Sonic Bruce. Or maybe something alliterative like Nano-Knife or Boom Blades. There's definitely a lot to play with there, but I hope that sparks some ideas!!!

My hero was inspired by Red Hood from DC. I was originally gonna call him BlueMask, but thats a bit jarring. He doesnt have any powers quite like Batman, and is a vigilante. I then went with the name Barracuda, but that doesnt really have anything to do with him except it sounds cool. If anybody could help that'd be great thanks.

The Blue Mask is a pretty cool name, imo! Plus, his nickname could be just Blue. On the other hand, you could definitely still do Barracuda if you wanted. Maybe just have it as the character-selected theme. After all, the only reason Batman is called Batman is because he chose bats as his motif. Your character could do the same! (Keep up the creativity, Super Friend!!!)

My superhero is a character who has a strong will but died but his soul became too aware and when back to his body and basically fused his body with his soul giving him the ability to touch intangible things like air, fire, gases, etc He starts as a villain and he sucks at it cuz touching air isnt so useful but he becomes a hero after saving someone from a bus but making the air infront of the bus elastic. He is an orphan and just wants to be recognised so he trys to become a popular hero just to find out that being a hero is more than clout and fighting. After being rejected by society and deemed a terrible hero he leaves for 6 months. He trains and comes back with his newly trained, more powerful ability His name is undecided

Ive made WAY too many superhero’s to count heck I’ve even made my own super hero universe but this is my most recent super hero, there more of an anime type hero though Akira Hoshikawa is a kid who lives in a world where scientists discovered a special type of virus that was released from the ice in Antarctica melting and if you catch the virus there’s a 50 percent chance you may get deathly sick and die and a 50 percent chance that you will get enhanced iq but similar to covid every year a new version of the virus appears which enhances a different trait like strength, speed, durability, flexibility, but some can be bad enhancing stuff like fear also if you get more than 1 of the viruses you will become deathly sick and die around a day after getting a second virus, after a while the scientists get control of the virus so people can no longer catch it as it’s extremely dangerous as it can kill you, after a bit of experimenting with the virus the scientists manage to lower the chance of getting sick from the virus and just getting the enhancements which they use in the military and other police forces. After even longer the government allows the world to infect themselves with the virus that enhances there iq for around 2 million dollars, at this point there’s around a 2 percent chance that you can get sick from the virus and a 98 percent chance you get the enhancements, (insert name here) has rich parents who decide to infect him with the virus that enhances his iq but a scientist who was working on a virus that allows you to harness the abilities from all the viruses got fired and out of spite to the company he switched the iq virus with the virus that gives the user all of the enhancements, so after a few days Akira Hoshikawa definitely notices a boost in iq during high school but he also after a while notices he is far stronger and faster then he was before he could run and jump around for hours and not get tired if he was punched he could hardly feel a thing but the virus that he got was a prototype so he still got negatives as his biggest weakness is his fear is boosted as well so he gets a lot more scared and a lot more anxiety than usual, he would still react the same to normal creepy things but extreme things like massive jump scares really gets to him, he can still watch horror movies but he does struggle with them. After he discovers his new abilities he decides the become the hero (insert super hero name here) as he goes on as a hero he discovers all of his new cool abilities and as the virus he has is linked to all of the different types of the spesific viruses he has every year he gains the ability from the new virus wether it’s good or bad. I’ll do his arch nemesis later if you want you can have a go at the arch nemesis or another cool character but for now here’s all I’ve got

My superhero team gets bigger with one new member each final film we start with 5 and then at the end of chapter 4 i put 2 new instead since the internaut still wasnt intergrated into the team and niether was the lake kid making the team number 9 heros and i needed them all for heros united end of days yeah the superhero team name is a united front but the superhero team up films are called heros united

I have a character that’s a 14 year old who was made as an experiment and she has 6 different powers: flight (no drawbacks), telekinesis (can pass out if too much), telepathy (can only read minds when touching someone), forcefields (do not last long), and ice (unreliable). And the story is her trying to be a superhero as a new resident of the city of Chicago, but doesn’t know her powers yet and it takes time to unlock the 6 of them fully. So I was thinking Multi as her name but I am not 100% sure. Maybe something in Spanish since she’s Puerto Rican? Idk, any ideas? *She’s still a WIP**

I made a hero named "Blitzfire". You can probably tell what his power is based on his name. I'm not sure if this is a good name though because it's just something i threw together as like a placeholder and it sounds incredibly lame next to some of the other characters in the story (gothica, greed, the red shogun). Is there some pointers you could give so i could maybe give him a better name?

I think Blitzfire is awesome!!! It's unique, it's easy to read, and it points to his power set. Sometimes, when we make placeholder names, we're able to be our most creative because we're not worried about making it perfect. But honestly, that one's really cool!!! (And so are the other ones!) Yeah, I totally think so! It's memorable, it makes sense with your premise, and the Earth/English-ization ("Greconians") follows English rules, so it's completely reasonable. Nicely done, Super Friend!!!
