I fully agree with you about the cost of shipping parts internationally it's at the point where the cost of the shipping is prohibitive and simply not justifiable.

Although it's not to your normal extremely high standards, sat outside it still looks bloody smart!

Back in the day 46 years ago we did side jobs like this in the evenings and weekends (splash and dash) lol in a product called Permobel which we heated up on a stove before we sprayed it. Also i remember painting two Rover SD1's in celly in one day prep and paint . Happydays and i'm still at it 😅. Great work lads 👍👍👍👍

Not how you would treat a customer car, but makes for a good video though! Looking forward to seeing some of your best work come to fruition in the New Year.

Good video. Happy New Year. As with lots of jobs, it's the labour that kills it. That is why I have been doing all my own bodywork and painting for the last 8 years. Where I live in West Yorkshire, I know of several shops that can turn out a job as good as what you've done for a lot less money, which is why they are mad busy all the time. We also have a few high-end restorers like yourselves. Horses for courses at the end of the day. Looking forward to all your content in 2025.

I think what is happening is people are remembering when a bare metal respray was £3000 tops. I paid 3Gs for the paint job on my 71 Buick Riviera, but 15yrs ago...the cost these days are mind boggling
@paintingclassiccars2 күн бұрын
Customers see the ‘front end’ costs and their mind boggles, the ‘back end’ costs and cost increases - wow! If we genuinely passed these on, we would have an empty shop. Gas, electric, water, rates, rents - insane increases. The only costs increase we pass on in full is materials.
@miamimo702 күн бұрын
@paintingclassiccars if my income had tripled over that time, I'd be happy to pay 15k for a respray..I can buy a fairly decent Bentley Arnage Red Label for 15k. The guy on the street with a Mk1 MR2 is being priced out, and can't keep a minor classic in tip top condition...if the paint job is 10k

@@miamimo70 if ours had tripled, I’d have lost less hair 😂 In 6 years, our hourly rate has increased by £10ph.

@@paintingclassiccars BMW want £80 to hook up an OBD scanner for an hour.. I think in the past we had quotes for "the job" maybe the trend now has gone to £/hour I guess

Thats exactly the kind of paint job a work truck needs. It won't be going to shows and will spend its time having gear chucked in it and getting the odd battle scar. If fact that's a better job than it needs.

I get customers asking for cheap resprays all the time, (“ I’m not looking for mint”) they chime, I explain there’s no such thing if nothing else given the cost of materials, when I put the price on the job more often than not they walk away and I’m more than happy for them to do so, the thing I don’t want is to be known as the bloke that’ll flash it over cheap.
@richardstarkess75952 күн бұрын
It's so hard to make people understand what it takes, time time and more time, + a skip load of skills. And that doesn't come cheap. Great video, those who want to understand will, the rest simplydon't want to. 👍

would be fair to say, 200-250 hours of labour, excluding welding and panel replacement are necessary?
@paintingclassiccars2 күн бұрын
@@OS993 to make this to a the standard we would usually expect - yes, about that. 👍

Now you will be inundated with requests for £3000 repaints! I know, from watching your posts, that it would hurt you to send out 2nd class work, and it would not be enjoyable to be watching the clock and (literally) glossing over problems. You would also be dealing with people who would point out any flaws despite the cheap rate. So keep up the good stuff for 2025!
