How NOT to use Postcrete, and other garden stories...

Summer is here! And we're back working in the garden again. Our mission for this weekend was to try and set up a base for a parasol, and also move the position of the post-hole for the rotary clothes line. In the process, we uncover more shoddy workmanship from the previous owners. Surprise surprise.

Excellent to see BASIC personal protective equipment (PPE) in use .....(NOT?!) NO Eye Protection , NO Gloves and Trainers?! - whilst using a high-power jackhammer, that if it slipped, could split your foot in half like a hot knife through butter. What Not To Do on sooooo many levels. Hope you set a better example to others for personal safety in any future DIY videos. (Professional Gardener).

I am completely guilty of this myself which is why it tickled me so much but criticising the previous peoples DIY while bodging it yourself is gold 🤭. As long as it looks good I wouldn't worry too much about under the deck although it is infuriating why they wouldn't just clean up but it is always going to end up getting dirty under there over time, I ripped up a deck I know we cleaned well and put a liner under... you'd have thought we'd turfed it!

Haha, fair point! Yeah, I guess I can't get on my high horse too much about the standard of workmanship, although I think in this case the decking was probably installed by a professional company, in which case using bits of rock to prop it up is not exactly great. But if it works, it works!

Wow, you even had the cheek to moan about the previous owners handy work. Like the comment “this is how post create work” erm not even close. TBH not sure what you was trying to achieve, I think you was going to screw the leg into it as you mentioned the same process for the slabs. That post creat will just pull out once you have it up and get a bit of wind. And there was me thinking I’d get some do’s and don’t in the garden just lots of don’ts. Wish you all the best.

I'm flabbergasted that you didn't rip up all that decking. You know there's a load of shit underneath, madness. Most the spiders you've shown are only moderate size, many more chunky buggers about 😄

Sadly we don't have the resources to be replacing all the decking at the moment. So not much point in ripping it all up until we can replace it.

@@makingahome_uk I do get that having recently bought a house that needs quite a bit of work, but personally I'd rip up all the decking and just go with the slabs underneath for now, now that you know what's under there.

Sorry typical DIY with no idea. A few basic things like plan things, read instructions. Most of all wear protective clothes and equipment. Alkali burns to the skin are not funny and will blind you, that hammer drill will go throw your foot. You do not have to be rich to be safe.

Yes, I don't think I would have planted it if I had small children, but they are up quite high so I think the risk is relatively low

Careful cutting Wisteria down as it can cause breathing difficulties soon or even many hours later.
