I've wondered if there's a layout of the city which indicates where all of these signs are supposed to be at in case of a natural disaster and they need to be replaced. A lot of these are in place because of accidents that have occurred at that specific location.

Most cities/counties have a GIS software (some are available to the public) which has all kinds of information including this. Google your local County GIS, you may be able to see for yourself.... You would be suprised of what is tracked, some even have all public trees and the dates they were planted..... (The City/County usually has an internal version which is updated more regularly and contains more sensitive information such as where water lines are, etc.... which the public cannot accsess, you may or may not be able to see signs on your public one depending on County....)

You can buy official traffic stop signs that are MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices) compliant from a number of websites, including Amazon. They run around $16 plus shipping - and you can find almost any traffic sign you want. They are the exact same quality, engineer grade, that you find on any city street with the protective 3-D sheeting and inks and they are made of rust-free aluminum. The standard is 12" x 12" but you can also get them in 4 sizes up to 30" x 30" for $50.
@petalong52644 жыл бұрын
Insider forgot to ask some fundamental questions? If NYC has its own sign shop, why are they so bad? I mean getting off the Lincoln or the GW signs are terrible. And why are the designs so bad? I figure the shop doesn’t design them, but who does? Need more research because this has real implications. Missed exits for one.
