I used to relax my hair every 12 weeks for some reason my curls are getting tighter which cause a lot of shedding i chose to listen to my hair and relax my hair nowadays every 10 weeks.

My daughters hair is so thick, I really struggle to keep it moisturised and even a few days out of braids or twists it will tangle like crazy. She is autistic and together we find the whole hair routine so stressful. She's 7 now and I've always tried to avoid even thinking to go down this route but do you think it should be considered? I wouldn't be able to do it myself of course I would find a professional but should I just continue to try my best or would relaxing make things so much easier?

No, I would not recommend for her to get a relaxer. Personally, I feel like getting a relaxer should be decided up on at an older age where the child is aware of the pros and cons of a relaxer. I would suggest that you find a professional who is good with natural hair and take it from there. Sometimes, getting a relaxer isn't always the best option. What kind of curl pattern does she have?

@@kurlymeka she's 4b/c from doing the tests. Massive shrinkage but the biggest challenge is just how dense her head is with hair, there is just so much of it that even braiding it I'm doing braids from hair line to crown then crown to nape of neck because it's too thick for me to manage right across the head. She can't sit for someone in a salon so we continue to persevere at home. Her understanding and comprehension are not that of her 7 years and will likely always be compromised due to her autism but I totally understand and agree that she should be involved (as much as she can) in the decision making about her own hair. I just feel sorry for her that she has to go through so much of a process to just maintain her hair as she finds it all so distressing and I'm kind of managing it without any help

@@merlecalderajoseph5405 before you do a relaxer retouch please assess your hair, because shedding is hair coming straight from your hair root while hair breakage is hair strands breaking off in pieces. if you are having hair breakage it could be because of the long stretch if so then relaxing your hair would be a better option. However, if it is shedding more than usual then I would not recommend relaxing your hair, but rather to visit your doctor because it could be a signal of a more serious issue. 👍

I’m lost. I thought relaxer was only for newgrowth which means you can relax minimum every 4 weeks”Newgrowth only”. Doing more than that would be overlapping and can damage hair and cause it to break off
