Watched this game in a pub in Edinburgh - when he hit the ball, the whole pub went nuts celebrating, and it took a good few minutes for everyone to realise he hadn’t scored. Was confused for a bit - was he offside? Foul? No… just somehow missed. Was horribly treated after it. Decent pundit on Sportscene when he’s on - speaks better than many of the other ex players who get on.

Though i'm 1/2 Scot 1/2 Norwegian, I grew up in the latter and followed that national team since a being a wee .noy...........That being said I had completely forgot about that match and that miss but remember it vividly now!! That miss I believe kept us with a chance to qualify, but as we bottled it in the last game, this game is largely forgotten in Norwegian fotball lore. That period is simply remembered as a blur of missed golden tickets to qualify in the last crucial game. John Arne Riise, Gamst Pedersen, Carew and a mostly injured Solskjaer were supposed to and should've been a continuation of the Golden Generation of WC 94, 96 & Euro 00 but always failed in the worst possible manner!! Still waiting to qualify and have worse memories meeting scotland now but with Ødegaard and Haaland good times must be coming soon surely......
