He was signed as the new number 1 and lost his place in the first XI to Mignolet during his first season. For the new season he was given another chance by Klopp, but even then he never lived up to expectations because he made a lot of mistakes and his statistics were anything but good. He was constantly controversial and even before the semi-final against Rome, Alisson was considered a potential successor. He then made two ridiculous mistakes in the final and what was even more ridiculous is how he handled them. First he cried on the pitch, then two days later he flew to the US to justify his mistakes with this diagnosis. And a few days later he has a photographer flown in and uploads an embarrassing image video of himself to Instagram with which he wanted to show the world what a hot guy he is, only to take it offline again 24 hours later after he realizes that it doesn't go down as well as planned. He failed even in the Turkish Farmers League (here he blamed his many mistakes on the bright stadium lights, among other things). Lets be honest, he`s just an average goalkeeper and without that day in Kiev he would be playing in the English or German second division today and no one would be talking about him.

He really wasn't performing well at all. He made plenty of mistakes and was in good form but not reliable. He made the same mistake in the Roma home game that he did in the final for the 3rd goal but got away with it. Mignolet and him were fighting for the position all season because neither was reliable but Mignolet was angry he lost because he never considered Karius superior to him (he did for Alisson though).

Loris Karius started for Liverpool against Real Madrid in the 2018 UEFA Champions League final, which his side lost 3-1. After the match, Karius wept and tearfully apologised to Liverpool fans who remained in the stands. A goalie or defender can have 99 on the line saves but if he messes up just once, he's a villain. When I saw Karius with Beşiktaş jersey, it reminded me Fevzi Tuncay, Beşiktaş's keeper in 2000. In 2000, Beşiktaş was playing against Galatasaray, later UEFA Cup Champion of that season, in home. A win would put shorten point gap between leader Galatasaray and runners-up Beşiktaş. Tuncay, who had a promising career, had saves throughout the match. But when Beşiktaş was leading 1-0, a defender passed him the ball but due to the pitch conditions, ball jumped and Tuncay missed the ball. It ended 1-1. Tuncay cried in the field, as well as his then wife on the crowd. He lost his confidence so much that when he had another mistake later season, he headbutted the post for anger. He was arrested in 2013 for failing to pay alimony for his second ex-wife, but veteran footballers made a campaign to collect money and save him. He is now a trainer.

Surely people are going to bring up his few errors in his season prior to that final. But people forget that it was his first ever season with Liverpool as 1st keeper and he's become their 1st choice in the middle of the season. And Liverpool play(ed) a high intensity football which tends to create high quality 1v1 counter situations for the opponents. And keepers are most error-prone in those type of situations. Karius saved LFC numerous of times actually. Karius was still adjusting and he's actually adjusted quite well and quickly too. He's been actually very good for Liverpool for most of the season and hailed for it. He's also been solid for Liverpool in that final until that Ramos incident. No keeper is free of making errors, espeically not when playing for a side such as LFC and especially not after having suffered a concussion during a game. I still remember that LFC fans in their hate even dismissed the concussion results and joined opposing fans in making fun of Karius for it... That was really messed up.
@HappySisyphus07 ай бұрын
I don't see how 1v1 situations are relevant, since both of his mistakes which ended as goals were just him fucking up, dont think liverpool fans are wrong for hating him, people actually care about their clubs, and if some guy who's getting payed a lot of money to play there he should be up to standard, and if he isn't, he should go to a smaller club where it doesn't matter as much if you are good or bad

watched the full match. Happy for Cristiano, my fav player, but felt sad for Karius

Karius was a bit of a weird one for us because he made some unbelievable saves, but also had a few clangers (what keeper doesn't, though?) I think most fans preferred him to Mignolet at the time because they both had a mistake in them, but he looked better with his feet. His reputation, not just at Liverpool, was irreparably damaged by one night of his career. A shame that happened to be on the very biggest of occasions.

for a goalkeeper confidence is everything. and after what he's been through no wonder he's not what he used to be. and yes he used to be a great goalkeeper. also it's not fair to point out mistakes in warmups or training that's where you're supposed to make mistakes where the point is to literally warm up or practice try and fail and improve, not a game situation where results are everything.

As a Newcastle supporter, I was really pleased when he signed for us but I feel like he's been wasted here. I heard that he's leaving at the end of the season too so it's sad that Howe hasn't really given him a proper chance.
@unholyxeras81826 ай бұрын
Same, I'd have preferred him to start a few more games ahead of Dubz while we've been without Pope. He's only played 2 games for us in all competitions across 2 seasons, and while we lost both games, neither were due to Karius. in fact, in both games he was one of our best players. I know that sounds odd when we shipped 4 goals against Liverpool at Anfield, but he made a tremendous amount of saves. That game could have reached a truly embarassing scoreline without him

Lol I don’t remember anyone saying any of this about Karius. Really only heard of him and only from that bad game other than that never heard of him. Joe Hart maybe was a big name.

What I hate most about watching this live, is that no one even thought he could possibly have a concussion. He clearly looked off and I think it was something about the way he got up and looked around seemed off. I also hate that Sergio Ramos got away with 2 clear red cards, he can be such a dirty player for no reason.
@adameden87226 ай бұрын
I thought for sure he was concussed. Completely disoriented. And Ramos getting away with red card challenges is essentially the story of his career even though he holds the record for most red cards received.

it was a nasty hit he got there, but from my eyes, he never got the support from any clubs and he didnt do anything either, but my guess he has vision problems after that hit, on top of that his personility changed almost 180, he serious needs to look into, if he has CTE

Also its super weird, that it needed Franz Beckenbauer to tell LFC that Karius was probably concussed and their medical staff didnt check that during the match or even aftermath. What a terrible job for medical staff.

New perspective i got on this now. Like my fellows before, i have to say, that i never heard of this comparsion to Neuer in Germany before. I must admit, not as Liverpool fan, but only as sympathizer of their club and the whole "you never walk alone" thing, i'am very disappointed with the behavior of his former teammates and especially the so called fans. The way media treats players when things are not going well is disgusting and professional Football gives a damn about them. It's just a question of time , we see the next tragedy, like in Robert Enke's case.

i have a lot of respect for sergio ramos, but as a Liverpool fan I don't think I will ever forgive him for singlehandedly ruining that final. He should have been sent off for the thing against Salah,. not to mention for what he did to Karius. Simply unforgivable!

The real terrible guy was Sergio Ramos, shame on him.
@albusha51506 ай бұрын
Scum Ramos had preplanned both his evil actions. He did them intentionally like a street thug! Wrestling Salah and hurting his shoulder was something he had done before to other players. Elbowing Karius ref should've given him red but that ref was as unfair to Liverpool as he could have been. Karius's mistake was to had told Klopp he needed to leave the pitch but as a young goalkeeper and being in such important final in his career he thought he could continue. Unfortunately, damage was so severe that it reflected immediately.

Yoooo, that Champions League final really wrecked him... I think there was nothing he could do to change that.... Fate just had it that Madrid would go on to create history with 2 more 🔥

@kuromori6200 Just because Karius is mistake prone doesn't change the fact he was playing with a concussion. The match could have gone differently if he didn't literally suffer brain damage that blurred his peripheral vision, among over 20 other symptoms if I'm recalling the video correctly. Loyalty to a club doesn't mean pretending they do nothing wrong.
