I saw the change in corruption as being well representative of the character. In Overlord 1, you had a choice between embracing your role or instead maintaining some of your former goodness as a fallen hero. Which made sense considering who you were. In this, your a bullied kid who was raised entirely by the minions, and even before that came from a harsh culture if Kelda is anything to judge by. Some you instead having the choice of corruption vs destruction makes more sense. Your not really as craft or grey, because the minions that raised you aren’t either. Even the mistress chance made so sense, as underused as it was and as juvenile as it was. His father was a knight with a seemingly strict view on love, and his options were a pair of sisters. The witch boy was raised by minions who definitely don’t have the best view on romance, if Gnarl’s comments are anything to judge by.

@@nevermore7285 for me corruption vs destruction seemed quite detrimental to a game about being Evil. There was just less of a point to it without the ability to choose good. I feel like the 3 mistresses were kind of meant to represent each of the minion types, but cuts and budget stopped that from being fully realized and developed which makes me sad. Kelda represented the browns, being brutal and to the point; Juno being the greens, or at least could have if she really was more tricky and a political snake or an actual witch; Fay corrupted would be the reds, while a ghost would be the blues. I loved Kelda as a kid because she was badass at least on paper, though I like Fay more for being a surprisingly serious character and her exasperation for her people’s antics. Her being willing to corrupt herself for the greater good was really cool to see. Honestly feels like there should have been more to them, like actually side quests and such you did to earn their favor/love instead of just buying knickknacks. This game was my childhood, which is why I’ll always love it, but it definitely felt like there was a lot that was underused or rushed. I did love the twist with Florian as a kid, seeing him just drop the hippy elf act and reveal himself as the emperor was awesome. Another thing that I felt was undersold. And the fat jokes was a lot. Having it just be a mother goddess thing with the elves, which is based off the old fat statues, or the mermaids as a gag, or the Empire to show their hedonism and how the emperor is treating them like cattle, would have been enough. But all of them put together is just… ugh.

100% I loved this game series, but overlord 2 felt off from the start. They also released it with the intent of not making the same mistake as with Overlord 1, where they barely released any DLC, or were incredibly late with it. They wanted to not do that with Overlord 2.... which AFAIK, got 1 DLC then they buried the franchise...? It really felt like with the success of Overlord 1, they wanted it to be bigger and better, and just made it too big... and had to make some very unfortunate cuts. The humor seems to be the same way. Just blown too big, where it doesn't fit anymore.

From what I've seen, Elves are often used in fantasy in ways similar to Vampires, Fae, etc. which is to say standins for either Bourgeois Elites/Nobility tied to arcane traditions, long lived and uncaring for the lives of those "beneath" them... and, at worse, this is expressed by them being coded as foreign, feminine or gender ambiguous, and queer, which in turn motivates a lot of the popular violence against them. This doesn't mean "elves are always standins for women/femininity/queerness/foreigners/etc." but that's often a writing crutch used by certain writers that fits neatly into popular depictions of post-Tolkien fantasy Elves - at least in Western media If your story calls for a stand-in for either an uncaring foreign sorcerer, you can choose to depict them with the same kind of queercoding that Disney did for it's villains and you can go ahead and make them an Elf too to emphasize their "other-ness" and "fantasy presence"; if you want to have an opressed minority as a analogy for racism but aren't comfortable using real-world racism in your story, slap some elves in there instead to again: emphasize how they're "othered" by comparisson to humans, conventionally attractive (for those "falling in love with the beautiful opressed minority" plots) and both humanoid enough to be empathetic and weird enough to be fantastical - it's ultimately down to lazy handling of tropes by writers that aren't really thinking "that deeply" about it The opposite problem plagues Dwarves, as they're often used as a cheap writer's crutch to represent conformity, traditional masculinity, protestant work ethic, greed and industry, etc. - which, as an autistic obsessed with fantasy Dwarves, I am extremely frustrated by - I mean, bearded women and literal underground societies would have so much potential for weirdness that never seems to get explored...

As someone who has always been skinny and leads an active lifestyle well into my early 30s I will say I take issue with the rampant obesity problem in the US and I think there is a level of shaming and stigmatism that should exist around it because diabetes and heart disease plagues our society and affects our children when we don’t know how to take care of ourselves let alone our progeny and I firmly think child suffering and death is not cool. HOWEVER, this game’s problem is not that the writers believe being fat is gross, unhealthy, or funny, which is subjectively humorous to some, it’s that it consistently pulls the same punch over and over… and over. I agree with the fact that the joke is played out ad nauseam. Almost every detestable character contrary to the goals of the player is fat or an effeminate man… or both. I’m not even one to virtue signal for the sake of wokeness and I realize that this game is targeted for a young male audience with the idea of playing an Overlord in and of itself being a textbook power fantasy so the misogyny, machismo, and edgy aspects aren’t as disturbing to me. But it’s just plainly not funny when the same joke gets made repeatedly. Even a light jab at someone’s appearance in real life can evoke a chuckle but hearing the same person rail another person for their weight, looks, or demeanor is just malicious and downright mean and most importantly in the context of trying to be funny, very unfunny. At some point you realize the joke is not in jest or light-hearted and instead becomes more of a directed attack. A comedian can get on stage and make a dicey joke about fat people and will usually win the crowd over if the joke was executed right but there is no comedian on this planet who dedicates a whole comedy special to ribbing people with weight problems for their hour-long special because it would lose people very quickly. That’s what this game tries to make work. Ralphie May, Gabriel Iglesias, and Chris Farley among others have created a career out of the absurdity of their weight but that wasn’t the only thing they had to say. Make the joke and move on. This game can’t seem to do that and the comedy suffered for it imo. Beyond that, most successful body image jokes are self-deprecating. None of the appearance jokes in this game are aimed at the player or the Overlord and remain solely focused on pointing and laughing at other people which feels very elementary and lacking in any level of self-awareness. And maybe there’s some meta humor about the main character being a malevolent ruthless jerk who preys on these type of people because he’s heartless but the writing seems far more low brow and lacking in depth than that would imply. Honestly the comedy isn’t great at any point. It ultimately feels mean-spirited to the point of trying to make a statement instead of a joke.

I feel like they could also rewrite Juno to actually be a witch and a fiercely independent woman who does not go with, but viciously opposes other men attempting to sexualize her, and is enamored by the overlord due to him being quiet and not judging her for being into the occult. Fay too, could stay as a mistress, but instead of being an enemy who suddenly becomes an ally, she is on your side from the start, but warns you to stay out of the sanctuary, and when you do not listen, she banishes you from the sanctuary and warns you that nothing is for you there, but in the wastes, she finally decides that times are desperate enough and lets you drain her, becoming evil but not a mistress just yet, then you can do quests for her to help defend the Sanctuaries (Albeit sanctuaries that are now changed by their ruler's corruption), and her joining you as a Mistress is only obtainable after she agrees to join you at the end of that questline.

Its like the folks who watched the classic Disney films and got offended by the things in them because they don't meet that persons standards based on the current day. I have not seen or thought of this game in like 14 years. I remember playing this in early high school, and I liked the mechanics. The addition of minion mounts, and new pieces of armor, was interesting. I also thought the first game was vastly superior in terms of story, and plot. The first one perfectly subverted the expectation of a noble hero saving a fantasy world. This sequel was a little a wacky and over the top, I always like seeing Roman characters, and the changes to gameplay was fun, the story just didn't hit the same. I very much agree with all your suggested tweaks, except for Juno. I think keeping Juno as an optional second mistress is reminiscent of your character in the first game. I love the idea of Kelda fighting in combat alongside you, this your respect and acknowledgment being the thing that brings you closer together. Like you said, she was the only person to accept you as a child, and should be the romantic interest. However Juno should remain as a sort of temptation for evil. She is petty, vain, greedy, but also they should have made her cruel and chaotic. Do you give your entire your base instinct to destroy, pillage and horde everything, even if it means betraying Kelda & Rose? In short I like the changes to Kelda, but I think leaving Juno as an optional, "chaotic wife" would have been fine as well. Love the idea of Fey becoming a villain for the next game, either as a Dark Queen or Banshee Overlord.

A few points on the how to make it better section. Yes the fat jokes are overdone but a few of them do have a place like the empire being fat, lazy and undiciplined outside of the military and the right hand man makes sense as the emperor (not sure if I should refer to him as Solarius or Florian) has no interest in building a lasting civilization of humans and likely intended for it to fall apart after his goal was reached by either destroying it himself or leaving it to crumble to the corruption, greed and laziness he not only allowed but nurtured (that is my interpretation at least might be looking to deep into a silly game tho). The elf priestess being on the thicker side makes sense if you look at he statue in the first game or the multiple ones in this one but this is way to far. The faires were kinda pointlessly fat outside of giving Quaver an exuse to make a bee joke and establishing that minions like big bazoongas and don't really care beyond that but I did chuckle at Gnarl voicing one (same voice actor apparently voices Florian/Solarius/the emperor too) so I'm all for a redesign tho the flower idea might clash with the cartoonish and slightly off putting style of the game. Love the mermaid idea but don't think eldritch deep sea monster with a hint of body horror would mesh with this game in particular what with the cartoonish style. counterpoint about Fey (btw she is in fact not an elf but a different and apparantly unique fairy), keep the corruption mistress option specifically because of that yikes evil factor, make the banshee hate and haunt you and not be a mistress, but make a third option if you don't enslave or destroy the towns where she looses most of her powers but is uncorrupted so she becomes the counter voice to Gnarl and his evil for evils sake advice. Juno needed to be fleshed out more (or at all) and there are hints in game that there might have been more too her at one point in development, if we look at her decorations and favored minion tipe there are two distinct themes, opulence and grandeur in lions, eagles and gold vs venomous and treacherous in snakes, spiders and dark silver, so I think there is a lot of unused potential in Juno as a backstabbing politician and/or assassin that may or may not betray you, even better if you can't be sure by making her be the flirtiest of the mistress options but all the flirting sounds vaguely threatening. Kelda fighting alongside you in some missions would be awesome but I think the saving the overlord plotline is a bit much as the whole point of the game is to be a near unstoppeble overlord with a small army following you everywhere. On the topic of the mistresses specifically the decorations they bring should be aesthetic only but unlocking some of them could tied to side quests for each individual mistress, hunting with Kelda to get fur and trophies for her decorations, extort, robbing or killing nobles with/for Juno to get the fancy gold ones for her and finaly helping/exterminating magical creatures for Fey depending on which version of her you have and get a clean or tattered decor for it. Meet in the middle on the elves? someone in the comments mentioned elves as a bunch of Hagrids with "misunderstood" dangerous creatures and I lake that idea but also have a sub faction of elves headed by Florian acting like the hippie flower children they do currently as he is trying to subvert the elves to make them less of a threat to his plans. as for Florian himself the only change I think he needs is a more distinct change in how he talks after revealing himself to drive home that the obnoxious hippie flower child was all an act. as for my own suggestions for improvements: a low corrption/order route, instead of just destroy or enslave you can rule (see uncorrupted Fey idea). more to do with the towns/town inteface, as it is it's just pay to take over, I would like to have just a bit control over the towns I supposedly conquered like fixing the damn bridge in nordberg, specializing/upgrading the towns towards something like keeping the tourism going in everlight for more gold every time you visit.

In regard to the story, I think a friend of mine I streamed this game for said it best when I hit the seal/sea mines moment, "WHAT IS THIS? INTRUSIVE THOUGHTS, THE GAME??", I enjoyed her reaction so much it's a core memory at this point. Humor wise? Yeah, parts of it aged like milk, the ham fisted fat jokes primarily, but myself and my friends who I've shared this game with mostly laugh at it for its insane level of absurdity and audacity. I would like to see a new overlord game, probably with better writers. Because, a fantasy parody game where you play the "bad guy" is just something I've not seen a lot of, and I would love to have more. Even my GF found this title hilarious, I think the only thing that took the edge off of the fat jokes for us, at least, was the minions being attracted to the heavier characters. Even if it was played as a really bad joke, my friends and I decided to take it as "hey the little gremlin monsters like big ladies, neat". As for game mechanics I'm just sad Blues didn't get a mount. I think what would have been a good addition for blues possibly, giant frogs. It could give them a combat stance with the ability to tank and dish out some damage, albeit not being very fast. They'd become an excellent "wall" to protect you or even guard areas with close to mid-range combat via the tongue and jump stomp attack potentially stunning heavier opponents who normally toss your little monsters like salads. I remember giant frogs in the first game being a damn well nightmare to deal with being unmovable and unstunnable tanks, and getting to dish out that pain and suffering back at the opponents would have been a bit cathartic. For the utility side, it could have allowed them to retrieve minions with the toads' tongues to rescue them from a distance, or even rescue more than one at a time because of the frog's mouth being so large. Still loved this title's mechanics, as it had a lot of gameplay mechanics that were genuinely improved upon from the first.

This video reminded me of this one RPGMaker "lewd" game I played some time ago called "Conquest" like 10-11 years ago. The reason it reminded me of it is because the premise is pretty much the same but the Overlord isn't that cartooney and, besides the fact that he makes sense in his dark mentality, he actually tries to woo the heroines that oppose him. To spoil the beginning and give an idea of the game: The Overlord in that game is a Tyrant but if you choose to make the heroines your maidens you can only do that by being a benevolent Tyrant. In that route the Overlord becomes a protector since the people he conquered are "his" and nobody threatens what is his. You (the Overlord) and your Orcs start your conquest with a small village that's under the protection of a mercenary group led by the first heroine. You obviously conquer the village and plunder the place. The main mechanic and the thing that strengthens your orcs is the women you take as plunder. Here you can choose to "keep" the women to yourself or allow your orcs to have some fun. The same mechanic applies to the heroines but if you choose not to claim the heroines for yourself that is the end for that path (which locks you out of future decisions). Choosing the cannon route by claiming the heroines as your maidens opens up the "romance" path with them where you have to make them understand your pov by showing them that there isn't that much difference between you and the rulers of the land. The Mercenary Maiden for example will follow you only if you bring her back to the village and show her that you actually respected her fallen comrades by offering them a proper burial. She also sees that you did respect your end of the bargain and the village is intact with people going around minding their own business. My favorite is the elven maiden who is comatose because of you and the only way to save her makes her mad at you. The Overlord saves her and to show her that he's serious about her being his maiden he puts his life at stake and only like that wins her heart. This is what happens for all of the heroines. There are 2 that are more villainous so they don't need much to accept you as their lord but for the rest you have to put some work. This culminates with the last heroine (the most op one) that can only be recruited if the rest of the maidens are on your side (aka loyal). With their help you find out how to recruit the last maiden and finally conquer and unify the land under your rule. It is a damn shame that the project got dropped since there are no images for the lewd scenes and one segment at the end is unfinished (you play it but it's rushed). Thankfully the story is complete so you can play the entire thing but the ending pointed towards a sequel that will never materialize. This is one of those games that was created back when lewd games were in their infancy and people would post them on flash forums and such. Nowadays you can find plenty of good stories (and plenty of trash) thanks to subscription services that allow people to have their passion project and get paid for it.

I agree, tho not because of the humor. it's a cartoonishly evil game in a cartoonish setting, so a lot of the flat jokes and writing seem kind of fitting for a game about being cartoonishly evil. You aren't the good guy, so I don't particularly find issues with the way they treat the characters in the game. It's not a serious game with a serious take on morality. It's just surface level bad guy doin' bad things. It'd be interesting to see a more adult and realistic approach, tho.

I feel as if the series was aiming to be comically evil and not to be taken seriously in the slightest. Just a funny (albeit raunchy) bad guy doing bad guy things and genuinely not caring about it afterwards. It is understandable how he’d treat anyone or anything outside his rule that serves no personal gain as either inferior or objects of ridicule with the barrage of jokes, insults and general disgust. Granted, the fat centered insults can get redundant, the best option would be for more substance and diversity in the insults

28:25 In the real world, the saying "Happy wife, happy life" is extremely common for a reason. The man traditionally provides, but the woman is the one who has control of the household. Coming home to someone who is mad because you forgot the milk or didn't do an errand or forgot something does indeed suck. Buying your spouse an apology gift to make it up to them (I prefer glass sculptures because they are more elegant) is also pretty common. 34:00 Yes, historical Rome did not have that many fat people in it. Yes, they make a good exemplary character flaw about self control and decadence. The game is a crass comedy so they are turning that knob to 11

"Oh it's just a couple of times, you're evil! Of course you're gonna be cruel to people". but as the video went on and on, I noticed you we're totally right. The game does target fat people specifically quite often, and always as if being fat was the worst thing about these people who owned slaves and thought nothing of killing people for amusement. I still cherish the game for getting me into villainous protagonist games but I see it's flaws much better now after watching this video, thank you. Comedy is definitely subjective and that's okay. I think where the problem lies here is the presentation of the game's premise rather than the premise itself. There's nothing wrong with enjoying the game, and I don't think it necessarily means you're an asshole, but that's the only part I really disagree with. Ultimately I'd fall short on calling it problematic, just annoying at times. Like you said, the game doesn't take itself seriously, and neither should we spend all that much time taking its humor seriously. Great video, and congrats on a new sub. lol

I think it could work to leave Fey as a mistress or potential ally. If we rewrite elfs as people who revere nature and exist outside of good and evil, then we can assume that Fey will also has no quarrel with Overlord. Since he is a part of this world natural order. In general i think idea of having 3 mistresses could be interesting and unique if each of them are given more agency. I think Juno may be rewritten to have the same idea but change an execution. Like she is a schemer and socialite who sentenced to death after one of her powergrabs gone bad. Then it we can setup as 3 of them disliking each other for personal reasons. Kelda is disliked because she is brutish and kinda barbaric. Juno is seen as useless rich girl and Fey as a stuck up with superiority complex. Through game they help Overlord each in her different way and start to respect each other. Juno has a lot of expirience in imperial politics and court games for example. Kelda at first sees it as nonsense but later sees it as a battlefield of its own. Or Juno who has enherit distrust for magic due to her imperial upbringing, and antogonistic to Fae because of this. But then forms a bond with Fae after she saves her. We can even tie game endings to them. With best ending achievable only if overlord connects finds common ground with each of them.

As an avid Fan of the Harem Genre, i must speak out against the reduction of Female Companions, even if i agree that they should be handled in a different Way. For Starters, the unlocking of the "Adult Fun Time" scenes should not come through buying Stuff, but via Minigames which are the "Time spent together" signaliser, where Witchboy can get to know each of his Mistresses. Speaking of the Mistresses, to make the Harem work, 2 of them require rewriting. Somewhat extensivly. Kelda the least, mostly just making her non-hostile to the other 2. Juno could be shown with a metaphorical "Mask", that being her canon Personality, which falls apart over her Time once she is brought to the Nether and shown genuine Care and affection by Witchboy. Maybe writing her Arrivalscene where she, after seeing Kelda, makes a Remark about another powerhungry Man collecting Women, which Kelda can counter with something along the Lines of, "he has yet to enter my Chambers uninvited" putting Juno more at ease. Fay requires the most work, but there are Ways. Firstly, she is not drained to fuel the Towerheart, and neither does Witchboys corrupt her. Secondly, the Elfs are now all female, because the males all died, either because of the exploded Towerheart, or as an aftereffect of living in the cursed Forest for extended Time. Which drove Fay´s Mother into an early retirement, forcing the Crown onto Fay, making her a very young Queen, who was also surrounded by only Women for quite a few Years. So once Witchboy comes along, all tall, powerfull and masculine, she rejects him as something foreign, unknown and dangerous, but he also intrigues her. Later, when the Towerheart has taken all the Magic of the Shrines as well as hers, and appears to be at most a Quarter full, she does offer her Life to fill it, but Witchboy decides on a different approach. He casually charges her with one Hand (which again does NOT corrupt her) making her feel stronger then ever before, while just as casually filling the Towerheart up to 100%. This Display of Power, (which you as someone truly intelligent knows to be one of the very few true Aphrodisiacs) together with the (pleasurable) Sensation of Male Energy entering her Body and mixing with her own, Female Energies, should serve as a superior explanation/justification for Fay to, as you put it, "want to jump Witchboys Bones." Forming these 3 into a Harem however, i feel should fall to Rose, who as Witchboys Mother naturally would hold some Authority in his Life, in particular since i would make Wb recognise her in her first Visit in the Nether, and makes her stay instead of leaving him again. That would give her something to do, namely forging them all into a Family that can and will support her Child in his Conquest, and eachother in Life. Maybe even getting a dirty ambigoues Implication that Aunty Velvet might "join" the Houshold

Maybe it's my nostalgia blinding me(and the fact that this game gave me several kinks I would learn about only 10 years after playing it for the first time, corruption being the biggest one), but I find most of your complaints unfounded. Your biggest mistake(IMO) is looking at this 15 year old game with a modern eye. I don't mean it as an insult, I just think that you're missing a point of who this game was made for and what ideas were in there. First game was a surface level parody of Tolkien world, pretty much, a humorous perversion even, where they took the worst parts/stereotypes about every race, turned them up to 11 and had fun with it. Overlord 2 does the same thing, with Romans(not even real Romans, they are caricatures from Asterix and Obelix, pretty much) , Elves(of course they are cartoonish hippies with a bit of LGBT paint, that's how mass media viewed nature loving fantasy creatures at the time) , Fairies etc. They took the most basic negative stereotypes, cranked them up, threw a humorous filter and got this surface level parody. That's why they aren't insulting empire for any evil they did(+you're playing as the most evilest evil to ever evil, duh), and only for them being fat fatty fat fats. It's the easiest thing to point out, a surface level insult, cause the game is not even tryin to be deep deliberately. Is it distasteful? Yes. Was it meant this way? Yes. Do you have to enjoy it? No, but applying modern society standards to this game is silly. It's a product of its' era. Oh, and about treatment of women: This game is a power fantasy for DA BOIZ, and what DA BOIZ usually think about relationship with the girls? Buy stupid things, make them happy through it, somehow, and then you'll get to shake the tower at night. That's also the reason why you have an option to go for harem route, cause DA BOIZ love having multiple women fall over them. Yeah, it's sexist, catering to male fantasy specifically and a game like this would never fly today, unless it's some tasteless 18+ steam junk, but at the time, making games specifically for DA BOIZ was seen as the winning strategy, since gaming was way more male dominated back then.

Maybe you're right about that, i haven't seen every review ever of Overlord 2. But the fact that the game got a mostly positive reception upon release and became a cult classic, in my eyes, does inmplicate that people back then weren't as offended by the content, since, like i said, it wasn't a statement on anything, just a surface level satire, where you can be evil for the sake of being evil. And yes, the fact that you're not the hero in the slightest also makes complaints about morals of charaters misplaced, cause you're not supposed to emulate the behavior you see in game.

Of course the women are undesirables except for the ones he gets to be with him with no effort… Why even bring it up? Lol

It might be interesting to have the "mistresses" act as advisors or proxies to serve some useful role. The Overlord can't be everywhere at once, so having your badass tomboy childhood friend mop up the last bits of resistance with a handful of minions could be good. A charsmatic socialite might serve as a spy in high society. A cunning leader could oversee logistics and other projects. And so on. Granted, these roles wouldn't need to be filled by conventially attractive women, but there is a significant portion of the general gaming audience (myself included) who like seeing attractive female characters. I wouldn't make them all automatically mistresses. You don't need to screw everybody you work or cohabitate with. If they insist on the queen being a romance option, she could join as an advisor or liason as part of your alliance of mutual interest. She *might* warm up to you IF your actions serve the interests of her people AND you prove to be an admirable person.

I could see a third game with Queen Fay as the PC. We drain her in Overlord 2, which corrupts her. Check transformation into evil. She's now drained of power and needs to power up throughout the game. Check for power progression. And if we want to; check for swapping out the gender of the PC to get something new going. We could even have a RIVAL in the form of a kid that Witch-boy got with his mistress (regardless of what gender they are). Or sibling duo for rivals if we should tick both human mistresses. Otherwise just twins or normal siblings (like Rose and Velvet) as rivals. Rival could remain your rival and we end that in a duel or you can become a power couple that destroy everything.

Ok, hear me out What if we keep Fey(Fae? I have no idea how to spell her name correctly) and Juno as mistresses but we change them. Let's make Juno a schemer and social climber who are more conventionaly attractive than wifes of empire moneybags because she was born into empire underclass. And what if make elves more ponient critique of envirometalists by showing that they would rather have a moral high ground then achieve results. Also let's not brainwash Fey into being our mistress but that she did by choice as a bargain with the Overlord so he would do something benefitial for elves. That way we can make so that every mistress is avatar of diferent flavor of evil. Kelda is the ravaging evil that prefer using brutality and fight through obstacles, Juno is scheming evil that prefer deception and subterfuge to achieve her goals, and Fey is dogmatic evil that prefers subjugation and want you to build totalitarian society for your minions and then use them to solve problems. Then you can have to dance a horizontal tango with the one whose approach apeal to you most.

I honestly thought a lot of the fat stuff made sense in universe. The followers of the mother goddess sharing a different beauty standard than the empire wasn't a bad idea and the wealthy fat tourists going on vacation there kind of made sense. Both were cartoonishly exaggerated, but so is the entire game compared to its predecessor. The minions were malicious, but they're supposed to be evil incarnate. Honestly you telling a game about being Evil "Don't be mean" got a small laugh out of me. There only being one woman who isn't fat or living in the slums in the empire is probably just the dev team being lazy, as the whole game had an uncomfortable amount of npcs just copy-pasted over and over again. Now there were two instances where the use of fat people really was unnecessary: first, the women with the unfaithful husbands didn't need to be overweight. In fact it might have been great to have 2-3 completely different ones there. The other was the overweight slaves. Was there an explanation how they managed to gain so much weight while being slaves?

So I played this game to completion as well and while I think most of your points are valid. I feel like your evaluation of their use of "fat jokes or degradation" slightly off, while they took it too far I feel like making fun of fat people was not the intention, 34:17 you mention that in ancient Roman times it wasn't accepted to be be wealthy and fat, but it wasn't intended as an allalagy for then. It was an analogy for things that were happening at the time of the game being published and they used the lense evil characters to see that so it was exaggerated (still too far) and in an evil light. I understand what your going for you i just feel that you missed the intention behind it as the game is rather old and the times have changed a, and thus the analogies fall short.

I got the sense that the constant jokes on the women was meant to intentionally insult women as part of the role of playing an evil overlord. The same with every other thing. For a sequel, I think a good one would be the father escaping hell and it would be father versus son. Also, it could be that one of the mistresses in the second game will be loyal and fight with the overlord, while the other betrays the overlord and joins the father.
