I bought a Jeep wrangler with 33's (275/70/18) on it. After two years of all sorts of transmission problems, hard shifting, slipping, limp modes, TCM codes etc, I finally realized that it was all coming from the increased tire size. The day I put stock size (255/70/18) tires on, all of the problems went away and I cant even feel it shift now. It's crazy what bigger tires can do when you don't regear.

I installed 33” tall tires on my 2013 Silverado 1500. Within 4 years I had to replace the tranny. 3 years later the rear differential blew.

@@TireReview Next tires will be stock size (I should have had the front & rear differentials changed when I had it repaired). Still have the stock 3.73 gears.

Thanks. I knew larger tires were detrimental. Now I know the reasons as well! Cars can’t be fitted with tractor tires.

Would any of this Trans and regearing or differential issues occur if someone upsized just 1 inch taller of a tire? example : going from a 29in tire to a 30in tire On a truck, pretty minimal change. There is a 30x9.5r15 tire which i feel probably fits well n maybe improves ride over the 235/75r15.

My stock tyre was Bridgestone 215/70/16 and i changed it to 245/70/16 BF Goodrich but the car is not going above 100mph and makes some whinning noise from the transmission. Does the limp mode at 100mph has to do with big tyres? Kindly let me know

i figured that applying bigger ti16res can really harm your car's joints and differential bearings and etc,, my stock tire was 265/70/16 because its a suv a landcruiser and i applied these big tall sand tires from maxis 9.00/16 it looks cool and all but i can feel the car is so heavy and can't reach the top speed which is 140mph and i started to have problems with the power steering pump and my rear differential started making noise because of the axle bearing so lesson learned here

Dumb question, my car say it fits 205 70 r15 and 225 70 r15, is it that much difference if I put 235 70 r15 on them?

It *MAY* be an issue, but it may as well not. All relevant informations are given in the owner's manual, for example, are snow chains allowed on the biggest accepted size? If so, it's like adding ~1" both in width and in overall diameter, meaning there is clearance for the "oversized" wheel. Now, I'm pretty surprised to see 2 valid dimensions with different outer diameter, as that means the speedometer will require a tweak, which is an entirely different issue. It's quite interesting by here not any one pro seem to accept alternative dimensions mounting, although it's a valid replacement with respect to both law and mechanical clearance (should even have been the original dimensions).

Hello. Can big tires damage the gearbox? (manual box) I changed the gearbox in the car, and the service people told me that the rims had a negative effect. I'm talking about an Audi A4. the manufacturer recommends 17' rims with 225 50 17 tires, and I put 19' rims with 245 40 ZR19 tires

Swapped my Camry 010 tires for slightly bigger ones, the rear tires are now rubbing against the plate of the struts, causing the tires to smoke and give off burnt smell.

Generally I try to maintain overall wheel height. In other words, if you're increasing the rim size then bring down the sidewall size. Obviously this will make ride quality worse but it is what it is. On the other hand, wider wheels don't seem to affect much. Obviously don't run 315 wide tires on a car that came with 195 wide tires stock. The loss in acceleration/ mpgs is well worth the improvement in traction.

why, so you can roach it again in 35K miles? I financed a used JK Wrangler with 35s, a 4" lift and stock gearing on a 6 speed a few years ago and it was the worst mistake of my life. Within a week it started popping out of reverse, then 4th, then 2nd and finally it wouldn't hold any gear at all. I was quoted 5k for a rebuild, I can only imagine what it would cost in 2024 dollars. I told the bank to send a tow truck and called a bankruptcy lawyer. Luckily I was still in my early 20s at the time so I've been able to repair my credit and buy a house, but I'd really like to show 23 year old me this video (and tell her a few other things).

Or why automatic transmissions suck in one easy lesson. Manual transmissions don't have this problem but you may, may mind you, experience increased clutch wear.
