I work at a high school and the students are constantly on their phones. They aren't paying attention in class, they show up to school several hours late - the phone is far more important than education. They are even doing 'tic tocs' in the hallways. It's very disturbing.

You are about to create all that you will look back on someday. You have the power to choose. The next time you’re faced with worry, breathe in. Choose to be present. Choose to be curious. The next time you notice yourself postponing joy, simply tell yourself, “I’m allowed to enjoy this.” Do that enough times, and you may just find it will add up to a life well-lived.

I’ve noticed the same about myself. And as someone mentioned Eckhart wouldn’t agree with him being the main way of reaching presense. Although he does to me too, I’ve connected paying attention to presense in my own experience. The reason he brings you to presense is because his demeanor and presense as well but it’s also because your paying attention , your focus on his words. YOU make yourself present not him. Work on shifting that same focus on daily activities and you’ll see how not only his videos but anything can bring you there.

This is why I isolated myself 19 years ago I couldn't keep up with the pace. If you watch news clips of people talking in the 70's people talked much slower, you could actually think before you spoke. I can write beautifully and make cohesive comments because I have a chance to think, edit and I can use proper punctuation but if you read most people's transcripts of them talking on KZbin it's a wonder we can understand each other at all. You say a few words and you remember something you should have said so you go back and say that, then you go back to where you were and blah blah blah! Some people can speak quite eloquently but there aren't a lot of those people out there and I am definitely not one of them. If someone verbally insults me I'm so shocked in the moment I have no idea what to say but later when I'm alone I can think of tons of things I should have said. I would never have grown spiritually as I have had I stayed out in the world working, going out for beers and being in bad relationships etc. I do love being able to come onto KZbin or Twitter once in awhile and making brief comments that uplift or help others.

I am "concerned" how this technology might affect "our" babies and "our" children. I have seen little tiny tikes playing on a notepad while out to dinner with their family. They are missing so much opportunity to learn about human behavior and interaction because of those notepads in front of their face. I am SO glad I am not raising kids in this technological age. Agreed with Vera Intuzione! For two years I lived in a very remote town in South America where there wasn't internet or cell phone coverage up until around 2015. A very healthy and peaceful community; small and wary of outlanders (and on the conservative side of the spectrum, naturally) but with that warm kindness that all rural folk seem to share. I went back in 2021... internet , cellphones, tik tok etc. just took over their minds. It seems for all it was postponed, once it arrived it wiped the town with the force of a tsunami. We have to face it, it might be inevitable at this point.

Get the slightest thing wrong and it turns into a disaster 😵 Really frustrating at least for me. People call you at any time and flood you with messages getting angry if you don't answer immediately! I had gotten to a point that in the morning I was afraid to pick up the phone or open my e-mail ....🥺 A real anguish arose in me. No social media, no electronics at least an hour before bed and upon rising.. Do I want to fall asleep with Facebook? I think NOT!!! I can wait till tomorrow to find out if my bff has unblocked me lol.. Do I want to wake up clicking on the programming machine or rather do my spiritual routine with presence, breath, meditation, Yoga etc. to set a positive template for my day to go to work serving Spirit.. … I mean I think I can wait until lunch to find out what Beyoncé has said today…. Though the suspense is killing me 😂 nothing wrong with technology, social media etc. in balance…but like Eckhart says….and it’s all part of the programming machine aimed at distraction and disempowerment to keep you beholden rather then sovereign in Spirit…come on….we’re better than that!!!!

Stillness is the spiritual attainment of Eckhart. Each one of us will have its own reward also in a unique way. In the meantime, we can take advantage of its sharing, but it is not a universal acquisition we should all possess. For example, it is very possible to enjoy stimulation or multimedia in a calm way, balanced between calm and stimulating music or entertainment.

If you want to be successful, you must take responsibility for your emotions, not place the blame on others. In addition to make you feel more guilty about your faults, pointing the finger at others will only serve to increase your sense of personal accountability. There’s always a risk in every investment, yet people still invest and succeed. You must look outward if you want to be successful in life.

You could say that balance between presence and knowledge is wisdom. You could obtain all the knowledge you want, but if it is not balanced with presence then it is possible that you speak a lot of words which are technically correct regarding the field you gathered knowledge in, but you don't actually say much. To give a simple example, when you go to the doctor, you don't really would need his extensive knowledge on car mechanics. The balance itself you can cultivate by practicing being present and being aware of your surroundings. Knowledge will come when needed. The challenge lies in not identifying with the knowledge that the mind has gathered.

@ StudentofAbraham.. Yes, I just wanted to say that I believe Eckhart would say that the alternative to the ‘madness’ he is describing is to discover the experience of ‘Presence’ within us. It is always there. For being ‘nothing’ it offers everything. It is internal, rather than external (actually it is everywhere). Some describe it as the space/silence between the thoughts..Keep listening to Eckhart if he resonates with you.. Also great teachers such as Mooji, Ramana Maharshi, Papaji, Parmahansa Yogananda, and Nisargadata (to name a few, in no special order) discuss this theme. There are many KZbin’s. I find their messages uplifting.. Your dissatisfaction may be a blessing because you will search for an alternative..🙏

Yes, he wasted away at the edge of a pool gazing at his reflection, stirring the water with his fingers to animate the reflection (make it appear more life-like). Something often unmentioned was that Echo was there the whole time, pining for him at a distance. She had been punished to say only the most recent words she'd heard (by the goddess Hera, for talking too much; gossip?). That's why Narcissus spurned her affection. He thought she was being glib, teashing, repeating his words back to him. He wasn't empathetic enough to consider her affliction. The god Hubris punished him for that (to fall in love with his own reflection). As he wasted away, stirring the water to animate his reflection (to be something it wasn't), Echo sat at a distance repeating the last words she heard (him saying "I love you" to his reflection). Her words added to the egoic delusion he suffered, making it even more real. He could have had the real thing, but couldn't accept her as she was. She ended up making his self-love more real.

The guy looking at the water died of dehydration because he didn't want to drink the water because it would mess up his reflection aka ego.
