Paul's teaching skills have improved sooooo much since the instructional video days. He explains lots of details that he's discovered about himself over the years, one of them including what you mentioned about the elbow of the fretting hand moving freely! He incorporates more of a "shoulder pull" when picking adjacent strings these days too. His online guitar school is great! Really fun and informative! Regarding the pull-offs, he doesn't grab extra wood to make the pull-off louder, he uses it to mute the previous string.

I watched this video with Jason Richardson and it appeared that he literally could not do pulloffs like you described here (either can I so that's fine). Jason is an amazing guitarist, but it shows that there are always tricks to learn that will make you better where you want to learn to be better. Thanks and keep up the great content, man.

so true. in the old days the videos we had were of people show boating or showing off instead of teaching their tricks, it's was always lightning fast and off to the next lick. lol thanks for this.

Best tip I ever learnt about his string skipping is that it ALWAYS uses outside picking.
