We can also draw on those negative ions by simply touching the earth. The benefits of being in nature - even a pot plant in the home can bring benefits. There’s a lot of good stuff around. Thank you for sharing the insights you’ve learned.

I just provided 52 images to an author who is writing a book called “The Spirituality of Running”. It’s about the benefits of running in nature! It’s been a very fun project and his message coincides with yours! I loved your multiple exposures! Thanks for taking me along!

I agree,, I live near a large creek, and woods, growing up in the country, I always found peace while in the outdoors, I could never live and stay in the city, there is so much nature out there, and it's free to use.

Excellent video, Kiim! Please do more of these. I really hope you inspire people to get out in nature or just open a window and breathe! I'm sure videos like this reduce the number of prescriptions for drugs to aid depression. Nature can be a healthy, drug-free alternative. Thankfully, I have no need for medication like that, but you've inspired me to get down to the coast today!

Great video! I loved the square format images! The multiple exposure images were very beautiful. They are some of your best abstract photos. I recently received an email from a botanical garden that I am a member of. It had a series of images done in a round format that I really liked. Just have to figure out how to do round format. Thanks for another great video.

Loved the science-y part - explains a lot. Looking at my own mental health journey, photography has been a lot more beneficial to me than medication (I think) - they should make photography available on prescription.

Thanks Kim for sharing your experience.....put it simply, positive ions are molecules that have lost one or more electrons whereas negative ions are actually oxygen atoms with extra-negatively-charged electrons. Negative ions are abundant in nature, especially around waterfalls, on the ocean surf, at the beach and widespread in mountains and forests..... cheers from Australia 😀❤️

That long exposure shot at the beginning of the video was still lovely, even though the sun didn't quite do what you wanted it to! The positive and negative ion thing really makes sense too. There's no wonder I've been feeling so rough recently! I can't get out into nature and do the photography due to my physical health (long story) and that is in turn having an impact on my mental health. Hopefully things will change soon.

@@kimgrantphotography Thanks Kim. The long and short of it is that I need surgery to remove quite a large bladder stone, and until I get that surgery things aren't going to change, but the good news is it shouldn't be long now.

You are looking cute and sparkly here... yes, we need to get out and give the body at least walking exercise and fresh air. I would prefer the 'positive' ions to be the good ones, to be taken in during the outdoor ventures, and the 'negative' ions, the ones I leave behind in the office or toxic environment... but I get the idea you are sharing

Sorry to say you have fallen for some pseudo-science there; positive and negative charges around you will be balanced - you know what happens when you've shuffled over carpet and reach for the doorknob. Charges will even out. That said, the University of Oregon has published an interesting research paper on how the human brain likes to look at nature with its fractal structures, as opposed to smooth and blocky artificial environments. It's simply what our brains evolved to read. People in hospital get well faster if they have a window that shows some nature outside.

Hi Andreas, I'm studying at the moment and learnt this through my course. There's many papers online about this too. Nature has so many amazing benefits. This is just one of many. Ahh yes - I've heard the benefits of getting better quicker in hospital when you have a bed near a window. I remember reading a research paper about flowers when I was a nurse too. Although many hospitals don't allow flowers now. Nature and our connection to it is fascinating.

Here is a link to a medical website that speaks about it. There is so much that comes up when you look this up: www.webmd.com/balance/features/negative-ions-create-positive-vibes

The article starts with some claims and questions and then states "It's too early to tell for sure, ..." If you look up a meta-analysis of the studies on the topic you find exactly that result - data is inconclusive so far. Some effects have been seen in treatment of depression (which the article also mentions) but none on mood, anxiety/relaxation.
