Loved this video, really enjoyed the technical explanation. Great tips. I think this range of product will fit perfectly in conjunction with Cadence.

Many thanks for your last answer. Your videos and responses are so more professional than many on here. Just one point of confusion that your last answer leads to... In the video you say the 850% stretch elastic was a hybrid and from your previous answer you said it's Drennan Power Pull. However... Drennan do not claim anywhere that the elastic is a hybrid, which is rather ironic considering that the term 'hybrid' is a generic term for the more stretchy versions. Yet for one of the 'most stretchy' versions that you know of, they drop the opportunity to label and market it as a hybrid. Strange when hybrids usually command a higher price tag - or am I missing something? You'd have thought they'd call it a hyper-hybrid!

The last elastic which Richard stretched over his side tray which went by far the furthest (they were all only 10cm) was one of the new Drennan Power Pull range. The elastics tested and compared all varied from make/make and brand/brand but the PP was by far the softest/stretchyest tested. Like you, it seems odd to us that it's not using the term Hybrid anywhere considering the use of the term - although they (like anyone of us) can call a product what they like. Funnily enough when launched none of the PP had any label or marking as to rating either as far as we know and it looks as if they have now retro affixed labels. So could just be another oversight. Who knows but we don't think you're missing anything.

Great Video. Good explanation how we all curse the elastic when it snaps causing lost fish, Lost Rigs and even lost elastic and all below. Also considering how much we spend ensuring we dont lose fish by renewing our elastics annually just by checking will save us lots off £££ every year. Thanks indeed for the info. Cheers

When using a plastic connector don’t use the cover I use a small rubber buffer bead. I think this works better and doesn’t break

Brilliant answers - another couple of questions sorry! (1) I understand how you dip & build up multi layer hollows, but at around 2 mins, you showed us a pink hollow that was extruded in a single piece of the same material. How do you EXTRUDE a hollow please? (2) The hybrids appear more plastic, translucent, shiny etc compared to the more solid rubbery look of traditional - why? To draw a parallel, it's like comparing a translucent vinyl silk paint with a high opacity matt - you get the drift! (3) If the latest hybrid solids are behaving similar to the more expensive hollows, what the point of hollows these days, especially when hollows are claimed to be adversely affected by temperature?

1) hollow extrusion needs a Die & Pin to form the correct O/D and I/D of a tube. Very simple and common extrusion process. If you look on KZbin you will see lots of examples. 2) you can have translucent or opaque simply by altering the pigment additive(s) and compound. There are so many permutations. 3) Solid and Hollow behave differently so depends upon what the angler wants. We are not so sure about hollow elastics (or solids for that matter) being directly adversely affected by’ high’ temperature in fishing use (heat, UV and Ozone will all affect latex). Not in our experience anyway. But very cold latex doesn’t work very well at all until it has been warmed up. Think catapult elastic and how far your maggots get fired with a cold Caty initially and how much further they go after a few firings.

Thanks. By far the best explanation of pole elastics that I've ever seen. It appears that you're saying that they are virtually all latex (even the hybrids). Can you please explain exactly (either compound or processing), what actually qualifies some latex elastic to be classified as 'hybrid' and makes them typically more stretchy? Also, which make/model of hybrid was it that you found to have 850% stretch? Many thanks!
@edgetackle

Basically Hybrid is a generic term or description given to stretchy solid elastics. Hybrid compound some say. The elastics which stretched 850% plus in our test were Drennan Power Pull but the different sizes & colours may not all behave exactly the same and there may well be others. Everything depends on compounds and processing.

Good video, only thing I’d say is that natural rubber is attacked by ozone in the atmosphere as well as UV. That’s why silicone-latex composite construction in certain hollows last so much better. Is the Edge solid made of latex and does it have any sort of protective coating?

Hi, thanks for the feedback. Our elastics are Latex and not synthetics as that is how you get the superior stretch and fast recovery. Like many they don't have silicone oil applied to the outside. On our website we do highlight the benefits of good lubricants and not just to aid elongation & recovery.

Could you use the lasso knot with hollow on a dacron connector
@peterthornton8520

I have been using the Lasso knot on my dacron connectors for a number of years now and have not found any problems sofar. Just make sure you get the Dacron loop end together when tightening it up.

Hi Geoffrey, yes I use a lasso knot on a Dacron connector for both hollow and solid elastics. Use as short as possible length of Dacron to reduce tangles around the pole tip. Cheers James
