It's not like the it's the 50s anymore and record companies are scrambling to keep up with what the kids want to hear by sending out armies of talent scouts to scour the country for the next big thing. Now, they sell sex, imagery and personality under the guise of music. It doesn't even matter if they have musical ability with the advent of the DAW and backing tracks. Just post edit until it sounds how you want. Musical quality is barely a consideration. Almost all pop music is written by a small group of people and really by two guys with a small outer circle. It's ok to like trash as long as you know it's trash, but don't try to claim McDonalds is good home cooking.
