I did not know Poseidon even had a wife. This idea is strange when considering stories such as that of Medusa, whom Poseidon had forced himself on. Unlike whenever Zeus was unfaithful, drawing the wrath of his wife Hera, the fact that Poseidon's wife, Amphitrite, isn't even so much as mentioned in the story is somewhat bizarre.

@skyden24195 2 жыл бұрын
@@aniruddhbhatkal1834 that is a good possibility. Even so, I wonder why Amphitrite is not even given a considered mention in the story, perhaps something like, "Poseidon, despite being married to the sea nymph Amphitrite, desired to have Medusa and so took the unsuspecting priestess in Athena's temple." Really, this story of Poseidon's marriage is the only one that I know of (thus far) that gives mention of his wife Amphitrite. Considering how many stories involving Poseidon that exist, it's surprising to learn that he is married. I've known about Triton being Poseidon's son, but I've always been under the impression that Triton was born of a non-marital affair.

In old myth of greek gods there are often different stories about their origin. Aphrodite for example has as myth where she developed from the cut-off manhood of Uranos, that cronus threw into the sea (Hesiod). An other Myth claims that she is the daughter of Zeus and Dione (Homer). It is facination how these old Myth developed in different directions. In some cases other cultures and their native gods influenced the stories as well.

@AA-bn7tf
@AA-bn7tf 2 жыл бұрын
I think he has horses because he used to be the central god of Ancient Greece but myths change with time. The indo-Europeans saw horses as being extremely important so it makes sense that a horses would belong to one of their main gods (especially one that used to be their central god).
@yestermorrow3223
@yestermorrow3223 2 жыл бұрын
He was originally the head god (back in Mycenaean Greece), so possibly because horses are so helpful, they attributed it to an important god. Also, that older Mycenaean religion was focused on the earth and afterlife much more than the later Greek mythology, so posiden was also a bit earthy. Also, the main form of transport in ancient Greece would be seafaring, so perhaps because of the connection of transport? In Greek Mythology, the reason is because he was in a competition with Athena as to who would be the patron god of a new burgeoning city. The competition was basically “who can give the best gift?”. Athena created the olive tree, Whereas Posiden created the horse. Despite the importance of horses for transport and such, Athena won due to the lucrative source of food and trade she offered, thus the city was named “Athens”- (and would become basically the biggest player in Ancient Greece for a while.) To be clear, I haven’t actually researched the answer, but I hope I was helpful to some degree.

Good thing Poseidon can shapeshift, otherwise he'd be thinking, "Why couldn't Amphitrite be the other kind of mermaid? With the fish part on top and the lady part on the bottom?"

@@chidinmajumbo8637 Here're some notable examples: Athena did it in The Odyssey, where she took the guise of an old man named Mentor, Aphrodite did it in The Iliad, where she pesters Helen in the guise of a servant woman about tending to a wounded Paris, whom she whisked off the battlefield, Hera did it in the guise of an old woman to test Jason's character to help her cross a river, Proteus did it in The Odyssey where he transformed into all sorts of animals when Menelaus and his men had to wrestle him into submission to figure out why they were stranded off the coast of Egypt. Those were all I could think of in one sitting.

Love it! 0:51 Zeus asked Nerius yield one of his beautiful daughters to marry Poseidon. Wow got caught Poseidon attention by woman name Amphitrite. 2:15 Poseidon asked loyal dolphin Amphitrite to meet with him. Loyal dolphin asked Amphitrite give Poseidon chance. Finally Amphitrite become the new Queen of the Sea with Poseidon watch at night shooting stars. Now Poseidon and Amphitrite have a child would serve as Poseidon's messenger and became his heir. 👏👏 Now that's a way Zeus help Poseidon need a Wife. Great idea! You know everybody find a true love is always give to humanity with hope. Not bad but awesome. Kind a reminds me like Poseidon statue from Google image picture and List of water deities on wikipedia The Romans called him Neptune. I glad Zeus was helpful make Poseidon got his wife Amphitrite Queen of the Sea. Oh and Hades got his wife Persephone Queen of the Underworld. They had a wonderful life with all humanity to the bright future.

just a small fact , poseidon is like isis to romans , an imported god not an original one . in reality poseidon is a berber god of north africans , one of many . if poseidon is linked to atlantis its not by chance , to the greeks the peoples of far west especially those in morroco were considered the descendent of atlantis and poseidon was their god and the greeks only adopted him and then started to flesh out his story so it become compatible with the greek pantheon , a behaviour often used in antiquity like how romans and greeks did with egyptian gods .

This is the first time hearing this? Poseidon was always part of the Olympian gods (the major 12)
@LauftFafa
@LauftFafa 2 жыл бұрын
@@isaacalzate8262 doesn't matter . He is a major for being adopted early in the bronze age unlike gods adopted way later in successors era or roman era . "According to the Greek historian Herodotus, the Greeks obtained their knowledge of the Sea-God Poseidon from the Libyans (meaning the Berbers), whose cult was in high repute among the coastwise Libyans, and was especially worshipped about Lake Tritonis; while Plato says Poseidon was the chief God of Atlantis; arguably located near the Atlas Mountain in North Africa. Poseidon's son Triton was also worshipped around the Lake, and, according to Ibid, his female counterpart "Tritonis" bore the Goddess "Athena". Poseidon's wife, Libya, was made the daughter of Zeus's son Epaphus, the divine bull, the Libyan Gurzil" You will be surprised how much the greeks inspired from there. Medusa for example is also originated from berbers . Atlas aswell who is btw not a greek word but come from the berber Aslas that mean holding on his shoulders . And it was the locals who named those mountains like that not the greeks . The far west inspired the old greeks , i mean pillars of hercules , atlantis , Atlas , poseidon and way more . I am not biased , i just delved into this before and was surprised by how much of greek pantheon isn't originally greek just what i call a plagiarism with a better prose than the original
