I always like to imagine the Shikkan was one of the researchers that helped create the wisdom cubes to combat the Siren threat, and something he did made the shipgirls from those cubes bond to him...then when they awoke the majority of them were linked to him...as a result the higher ups made him the shikkan and while he felt he wasn't ready for such a task ended up being a natural leader...as such the timeline where he dies and the girls feel they failed to protect him, creates the META timeline...

The title for this piece is the Jeopardy answer question for "A measurement the Azure Lane Alliance member governments should never try to discover." Shikikan-san has LOTS of power, and lots of responsibilities to go with that. But what about the power? 1. He is the named and appointed head of the international organization assigned to protect Humanity from an other-dimensional alien invasion. He could be replaced, but would it improve the AL efficiency, and would it have a good effect on the ships? Plus, SKK might say "no", and that would make things complicated very fast! 2. The various fleets recognize HIM, and HIM alone, as the sole, rightful leader of AL (plus Iron Blood). It's not that they don't acknowledge the human alliance, they just see the actual war as being in the hands of SKK. Replacing SKK without consent would definitely affect naval performance. Mutiny might even be a factor Plus Northern Parliament and the Iron Blood fleets would probably leave and start independent action again, and we'd be right back at Chapter 1 again. 3. The loyalty of the shipgirls can be explained by two things. Firstly, SKK has that superior resonance which allows the shipgirls to respond warmly to him and accept him as leader without TOO much effort. The other is that SKK frankly was hired for his management skills, both regarding property and people. He regards his fleet as being made of people, not "assets" or "warships" alone. His ability to patiently sort out back stories an personal conflicts, and inspire action towards positive goals, keep the shipgirls focused on fighting together towards the ultimate victory. And the more human they get, the better fighters they become. 4. SKK also has the knowledge given him by Fleet sources, Alliance sources, and a helpful person or two in other places than our own. This makes him the military leader with the most & best information which can be used to successfully combat and defeat the Sirens. It makes a difference.

You see, technically, many commanders have died. It is explained by the Anti-X that they have met many branches and different commanders. Some had a commander, others didn't. So the commander isn't completely "the player." As it has been shown many times that a commander "character" is present in AL. It is unknown so far why this specific branch is unique. That is what Anti-X is focusing the most on. Also, the original branch i believe the commander wasn't the "commander" he was someone else (assistant or something). The girls were doing their own thing but see Aoste and Anzeel as the two creators.

FFW to end of may, we have a double Iris UR event, in which we get a destroyer- Mogador, who switches from competent, natural leader into nyphomaniac in a split second and Alsace- scary strong battle machine who loses all composure whenever skk teases. We also get 2 elites- Eepè and Fleuret, of the same Le Hardi class. The event story is fire, too. We get to see some of the Ashes's past and FIGHT ALONGSIDE A SIREN, TOO. We don't get her, but we get her unique module.

Not that I’m aware of. The discovery of E-cubes launched a technological revolution, there was Sci-fi esc tech as far back as the Cold War. The only exceptions that I can think of are Pandora’s Box (the object that caused Bon Homme Richard’s METAmorphosis) and whatever ‘awakening’ turns out to be. But the former might not be human tech in the first place and awakening is pretty vague at the moment.
