Being a farm kid (about 10 yrs of age), I asked grandad why he liked the 30-06 so much. He explained that for him it worked. He could drop a coyote from several hundred yards easier than the other rifles he had. His explanation: the 308 will hit a tree from a quarter mile and go in the wood a bit. The 30-06 will go through the tree. His words are still guiding me 50 years later. I am blessed

Um, no. They are too close in performance to even hint at that.

Amongst all these new fancy rounds coming out, ive never once felt like im armed with antiquated technology with 30-06 or my old 270. They are and always will be very capable rounds.

As Col. Townsend Whelen said: "The .30-06 is never wrong."

.308 , 762, may have similar performance, but something magical about 30-06 , have 10 of them , keep buying everyone I see, great round.

Carrying a .30 cal rifle and ammo from before sunup to past sundown slows you down and much less ammo. Carried both in the Corps. Give me the AR. Yea for deer hunting the .30 Cals are better of course.

Vs in power yes but recoil and ammo is superior

@semperfi2023 RVN '66-'67 1st Mar Div 0311, M-14 never failed me, M-16 did. Less ammo? Make every shot count.

I have to agree. I need to get the M1903 out of the safe more often.

Odd that I punch in this title name on the search bar and it's still difficult to find . Seems to be that the shadow banding continues
