The scariest thing is that this bomb was made a while ago. As we all know, humans innovate and evolve very quickly. There is a 100% chance that there is a nuke at least 2x the size of Tsar Bomba. Scary stuff

Modern nukes are more about pinpoint accuracy and ease of remote deployment than they are about the size of the explosion. While we probably could make a 100mt+ nuke and have a drone drop it (since no plane could escape a blast that size in time), but 1-2 megatons is still enough to wipe out a large city and those can fit on ICBMs and nuclear submarines.

Well the thermal radiation would (much like a fire) only be a problem if you would be in the line of sight of the explotion. - So its flash of light > thermal radiation > shockwave > radiation fallout etc. - so if you had a hill or a house between you and the blast, the shockwave would be your immediate threat. Then the radiation fallout.

The bomb had a power of 51 Mt. The original design would have had 100 Mt in theory. Three uranium layers in the second stage were replaced with lead to cut the power. The reason for that is the uncertainty of the scientists of how mutch radioactive waste would be created. The pilots knew that their survival chance is 50%. There were no indigenous people in the village the bomb obliterated, they were evacuated from the island about 1 year prior.

It's "pronunciation" not "pronouncement". But that's because English is weird. announce (verb) = announcement (noun) pronounce (verb) = -pronouncement- pronunciation (noun) -enounce- enunciate (verb) = enunciation (noun) So, why is it announcement but pronunciation? Why not pronouncement, or annunciation? Why is it to enunciate, but to pronounce or announce, and not to enounce, or to pronunciate or annunciate? More to the point, who cares? This is about reading. I mean redding.
