Romania and Ukraine didn't had a good relation before 2022 ( territorial disputes, economic ones). Russia even proposed Romania few times to cooperate and in exchange to recuperate the land. Even in 2022 Russia proposed to Romania, Poland and Hungary deals to prevent help for Ukraine in exchange of territories. Romania and Poland refused and helped as much they can Ukraine . Because they know that the Russians will come after them afterwards.

I cannot discern what your point is as i kept zoning out from the vid, but that was one of many of the ukrainian's goals re kursk. You should watch ATP geopolitics vids from last august -his were/are the most granular detailed and comprehensive vids of any channel ive found to date. but to be fair, i believe zelensky, or at least an official gov press release stated most of their goals, google will give you many articles. the only one missing was how much land they initially intended to take. Personally, i never thought they were heading for the power plant as many suggested, but i AM disappointed they didnt get the extra 700km south of the sumyi river. its also 60k russians in the area if you include those originally there, against what is now 15-20k ukrainians as of 2 weeks ago for both numbers. But thats exactly what ukraine wanted, they wanted to remove relief troops from the back of the frontlines. In recent weeks, russian POWs have had at most 3 weeks training before becoming POWs, most get 3 days.

The only way I'm wrong is if Russia agrees to pay reparations, but I'd be very surprised if they did. Until then the sanctions will remain, but Russia needs the sanctions to be lifted to get at those resources. They need western oil companies. They don't have the tech to do it on their own. The best chance of those resources being extracted is if Ukraine gets its territories back. I don't know how likely that is, but even if they did, will western oil corporations believe Russia is now peaceful? I doubt it. It will take a very long time of Russia proving itself before that money is risked. Even without this, in a frozen conflict, both sides could and would lob missiles at each other if any such effort was made.

@a5cent I can't see Russia looking to the West in the near future, not after the freezing and using the sovereign Russian central bank assets. What tech are you talking about? I'm no expert but most of the resources in the Donbass Russia already has, and is mining and exporting already. Russia is short on refining ability, but China has all the refining capabilities needed, don't know about lithium though. I can see when BRICS is fully developed and running to it's potential that there will be a way forward for Russia to rebuild,develop and exploit the resources in there new territories. Let me know if you dont think this will be possible.

Putin needs peace too because if he carries on this war indefinitely all his fighting men will be dead, no one will want to migrate there to replace them due to this war, and he will risk going the way of Tsar Nicholas when he is forced to put vast numbers of unwilling conscripts in the war and give them weapons. Putin probably realises this. But Ukraine is already far more advanced along the road of having to rely on mass conscription. Peace at this moment makes abundant sense for both sides. The problem is agreeing terms.
