The strongest bonds I have exist purely on the principle we’re only honest when the other person is ready to understand the truth, it feels like your wasting your time when you tell someone the truth and they reject the idea entirely, so you give up, and they never change. If you care about someone the hardest thing to do is be patient enough to help someone understand something about them selves it’s something almost everyone these days are unwilling to do but if you cared, you wouldn’t run away. And if you don’t care, don’t bother wasting your time with truths. All you’ll end up doing is hurting others and yourself

how honest exactly? “i don’t like your attitude” and “i understand that you said that out of concern, but i felt offended because-” are both being honest, difference is, the latter has vulnerability. you would be disliked if you spoke like the former. also, keeping things to yourself means keeping toxic people around as well. you may lose a lot of people (heck, maybe even all of them) if you start being honest and vulnerable, but personally, it’s worth it
@nvmffs2 ай бұрын
@@tamarakoltermann-vw7pe Of course someone can have the truth, especially when it comes to knowable things. There's nothing wrong with feeling morally superior if you can see the bigger picture. How can you be sure? It's simple: if your conviction holds up when tested in reality, then you likely understand the problem from enough angles to be objective in your assessment. There's no room for ego when discussing truths. Ego is the enemy of truth.

as a naturally blunt person who doesn’t fully grasp the social rules around honesty, I can say honesty beyond the norm has two sides. on one hand it is freeing not being restricted by trying to keep up with lies, to not have to filter yourself, but on the other, as much as people might say they don't, they prefer dishonesty. so the whole experience can be isolating, as I get the sense even my own family members would prefer that I be less honest at times. and I'm not even radically honest. I guess it depends on what you think it means to "let your anger out." I don't think you are supposed to let your anger out on people who don't deserve it, e.g, on someone who will abandon you because you are being truthful (given that your truthfulness is somewhat justified and not a bad trait of yours, such as being insensitive, spoiled, cruel, etc.). I think this principle is best used on your real lasting relationships. Think of the mental burden it would probably be on everyone if no one is repressing their emotions on every social interaction. Too extreme on either direction, either moralist costumes or radical honesty is just not correct in my opinion.

Not so much anger but frustration probably. Is that what you mean? People are really sensitive to how you're presenting them the truth (usually an inconvinient one). They abandon you because they think it's about attacking them so you have to convince them it's about the truth. You're not out to make them feel inferior or anything. That's the only way they won't abandon you when you let your frustration out.

In my experience people get scared if you let anger out, so as a way to save others from a unstable mind and dysfunctional perception based on a temporary emotion -- it's better to do it in isolation.

This is really radical. There is great value in being honest with yourself, but with others you need to be ethical because not everyone is ready to accept the truth, it is not always appropriate and people will not always act wisely knowing it. We live in a society and everyone has their own philosophy. Forcing others to constantly be in conflict with the world because of the incompleteness and contradictoriness of their beliefs is not reasonable. The defense mechanisms of the psyche, as well as the conditional division into the close, middle and distant social circles, exist for a reason.

Radical honesty with oneself is an absolute must. Radical honesty with others, however, is akin to warfare. Those on the receiving end of “honesty” spewing from those with mental health disorders (like BPD and bipolar) know this all too well. Do you really want or need to know all the jealousy and hate others harbor for you and vice versa? Of course not. A mature, stoic adult couldn’t care less. Our power of discernment allows us to intuit honesty and dishonesty without all the details. If a sketchy person approaches you, walk on the other side of the street and don’t waste an iota of time on that person. Time is of the essence. That which creates peace and harmony will maximize our brief time here. We’ve developed societal norms and polite social agreements to maintain civility. You can honestly tell someone no without itemizing everything you hate about that person. With all due respect, this video contains horrible advice, though many of the premises are reasonable.

This is why stoicism exists, to always think that there will be something better, means that there will always be hope, no one man has pushed forward without hope, and all men who lost it stopped trying, or died in the prisons they put themselves into.

Although I always got good grades, I never studied in a good way, always last minute and messily, making up most of the information anyways because the teachers were too lazy to fact check sometimes (I'm talking about oral, not written exams here). If I had been brutally honest back then, I would not have gotten the same grades, therefore I would not have found a job as good as this. The only time you should be brutally honest is when you know you have nothing good to lose, which is why I'm very honest with my friends outside of work. Society is a jungle, and the objective is to survive.

OH man, what a rabbit hole. God, if I was in this situation maybe could admit to affair but never the details that's cruel. Last thing you want to hear from someone you loved was it "felt so good he threw me on the table and fucked the shit out of me." 🤣🤣 Honestly, but don't just throw all the cards on the table if it's super painful for the other person, keep those cards to yourself use "good" judgement. Everyone is going to have their own perspectives on things, but my opinion don't be in long term vows of commitment if you don't see yourself committing. Also everything is so nuanced. I'm talking more so for the ones who sleep around a lot and aren't going to change. I understand sometimes it just wasn't actually what you wanted or a good fit or someone was better, but there's the promiscuous who will stay promiscuous and it's not a win-win, its unfair to the other who doesn't engage like that, and wants something traditional let them find someone or stay with someone who also wants that. Yes not having a filter can suck, especially when you hurt people without wanting to. But you never have to 2nd guess that person which to me is a horrible feeling, rather not have those people around.

This is the single most useful video of humanity. Catch is - one needs to be reasonably evolved to assimilate it into one’s life

Hey man I hate to take a steaming sht on your parade but since thats the fcking point of the video and you champion it, I'll let you in on The Big Secret; The honesty is worthless if it isn't reciprocal. Lies are inherent in all socialization, especially when it softens the blows of reality. When you serve radical truth without any of the necessary tact you come off as a dickhead, and ultimately hurt the case for pursuing truth. Maybe once we all agree to magically just fcking spread our wings and evolve, we could drop the social gymnastics barring truth but until then, This is the single most useless video of humanity.

Thank you. Can you make a video on the lower self vs the shadow self? Are they the same? Carl Jung wrote about it extensively and then there's this dwarf from the book 'The Quest of Ruru', where the dwarf is the lower self of the protagonist. Should one engage with the lower/shadow self? Some say one should acknowledge the lower self and then move on. Meanwhile, shadow work talks about engaging with the shadow self. Please expand on this if you are making the video. Thank you for your insightful videos.

Let's all understand that the tools being presented here are exactly that: tools. No author, regardless of their credentials or lack thereof, holds the magic formula to knowledge and truth. Maybe it's important to learn all sides of the equation to formulate our own "best judgment " in every situation., like the antithesis to this book which may perhaps be Robert Greene's ideas. No, I'm not suggesting that we become expert manipulators. The idea is to get away from the limitations of the extremes of black and white thinking and creating enough gray area in our mind, not only to survive as existential beings, but to help others do the same. Think of the survivors of that plane that crashed in the Andes. No one wants to admit that we in the most extreme of situations we all have the potential to resort to cannibalism, right? But they each had a choice to make. Either choice would have its own serious implications, but even not making a choice was a choice in itself. My point is, escape the cave of shadows, my fellow humans. ❤

There is a dilemma here. As one person wrote in the comments below - that being radically honest may lead to ostracism. Is it really worth the price you pay. Sure, everyone should aim for honesty and transparency, but I mean going full out. In the radical way. It’s a bit like with the caricatures of the prophecy (and murder of the cartoonists years ago). Most news outlets would condemn the act of violence, but almost none would post the caricatures, because the one who did might become a target. Sam Harris discussed that there has to be a unanimous front, where everyone agrees to post. Radical honesty would realistically have to be a movement in society. Although we will likely see it being mainstream anytime soon. It’s just too.. radical.

I disagree, If people bared their unfiltered hearts on their hands constantly they wouldn't meet unless with swords. the whole purpose of this is acknowledging that you're flawed not empowering it, but accepting it and aiming to find better ways or improve.

Someone taking this advice will ruin your life . I get what he’s trying to say but not having morals and controlling yourself will destroy you . Don’t give in to your dark desires and tell yourself this is who you are. By this logic are we supposed to accept killers and people who harm children?
@Hedgehog33422 ай бұрын
It's not about not having morals. But rathers the rules a person was conditioned to listen to and what they tell themselves. Moralization already ruins you to begin with, because it limits your very being. Often what it is however, is this moralizing is of a mechanical nature following rules because you was told to do so. Therefore you became unconscious.
